Which shock sizes for racing

Post by jaro »

I'm wondering what peoples thoughts are on shocks. I want to put together a couple of cars together and probably stay more with the old hard anodized green Associated shocks. As I'm starting with a reasonably blank canvass which direction would others go. I would mainly be racing on astro tracks here in the UK, so high grip in the dry and slippy as anything in the damp.

First car would be a traditional RC10 set up. So do I go with standard 0.71 front and 1.32 body/1.02 shaft rear, or would I be better with the 0.89 front and new shock tower, with 1.18 rear and standard buggy shock tower.

Second car would be a bit of a WOIN with truck front end and Dynotech arms all round. I'm trying to keep the looks as near to a traditional RC10 with this one, but taking advantage of the longer arms and some newer parts. I was thinking shorter front shocks instead of 1.02, so I'm wondering 0.71 or 0.89 fronts with new tower, or would 1.02 be better. And on the back do I go with 1.32 body/1.02 shaft or opt for the 1.18, again with buggy rear shock mount.

Peoples thoughts on racing these set ups, or pictures of their rides would be much appreciated.

TIA.
