I think the flatter profile provides the ideal canvas for some great paint jobs. Anyway, I'm delighted to have found this week that Penguin are doing Fat Cat copies - I shall definitely be ordering one (at least)!DerbyDan wrote:@ Groomi - I must admit I'm not a massive fan of the Parma FatCat.... Re: I've taken in another stray CAT.. XL
I had the Frewer 'DOG' body on my Cat XL back in the day. You rarely see a used one now days let alone a new uncut one. That thing must be very rare!
Re: I've taken in another stray CAT.. XL
I've had some free time to work on the XL yesterday, and now I'm at the point I need to choose the body.

The frewer is very cool, but I think I'd like to go for the original style for this buggy. The problem being finding an original.

Is the Parma version similar to the original? I can't remember seeing a Parma CAT shell except for the Fat CAT.

You've done it again Paul - what a transformation! Checking back at your first pictures its unrecognisable as being the same car!
Can't wait to see it all finished & cloaked in some fresh Lexan!![Cool 8)](./images/smilies/icon_cool.gif)

Thanks Dan, I'm really happy with it. The buggy came with just about enough spares to build another complete drivetrain and suspension, so I might just have to build a SWB or XLS stable mate soon

Re: I've taken in another stray CAT.. XL
Back when I purchased my used Cat XL from a fellow club member back in the 80's it was fitted with a Frewer dog shell. Pretty sure it was period correct for the XL.CAT3K wrote:Thanks Dan. I have a choice of the original style body or a Frewer Dog for Cat, but i haven't been able to make up my mind yet..
The Frewer looks cool, and i think it is roughly period correct (maybe slightly later for the XLS?)
The only thing is, i had kind of wanted to keep it looking like an original XL.
Paul.

Thanks Jason, good to know. I'll make up my mind which to use eventually, it just depends if I can find an original, original..J.M. wrote:Back when I purchased my used Cat XL from a fellow club member back in the 80's it was fitted with a Frewer dog shell. Re: I've taken in another stray CAT.. XL
I dug out this set of alloy eccentrics intending to fit them to this CAT. I hadn't looked at them closely before, but they're different to all the other sets I've had before. They have a flange on the inner rim, and they have less depth than the regular ones too.

I'm assuming these might be for the Pro diffs in the Cougar 2 Works, or Bosscat Works?
Paul.

Re: I've taken in another stray CAT.. XL
Paul I think you may be right. I have both these and the other alloy eccentric housings but it's been such a long time since I have laid eyes on them that my memory fails me.
Great find though.

Re: I've taken in another stray CAT.. XL
I painted up a body for the XL yesterday, and since it's a sunny day here today I decided to take a picture of the CAT in its natural habitat, the grass*

YES! I like that alot - a simple paint scheme but very effective! - I like how the orange stripe kinda echo's the orange Bud's belt beneath & is tied in with the old style Nosram stickers, very classy!
