Obviously the sons attempt is better...

Trying to come up with ideas for spraying the shell (which I still have to get (any ideas on suppliers, quality etc)

How hard could it be? Considering the last time I tried ( Tamiya Hornet) was painted with a brush on the outside of the shell 27 years ago.......I had no idea!

I also have to paint a second body with my son's handiwork.......... any ideas?

Today a package arrived from Denmark containing T029 T515 one way clutch housings, replacing the cracked and glued bodge jobs I have. A massive thank you to DennisM. They're really are decent people out there, and some do help keep vintage RC cars alive!

It would seem every 4WD schuey I have bought with one-ways have these items cracked. Ive owned new items like these and getting the metal bearing housing into them is a real chore. It leads me to think that the plastic over time gives way under the pressure of the bearing squeezed in there. I also wonder if the plastic shrinks in some small way prompting them to crack also?

I have them currently soaking in a warm water bath, and I think I am going to ream them out a little (not too much, but just enough so not to have to use a vice to get the bearings in as per instructions)

After nearly a year I have made a little progress with my first ever paint job. Like I said before, this isn't going to win any awards for "best in show"

For us "hobby" painters, it´s the overall impresssion that counts. You did well, it looks great.

I´ve done about 100 bodies, and I´ve yet to make a flawless one. Mine are best from a certain distance - Looks far from good, but good from far

Looks good buddy can't wait to get mine built up now I've got nearly all my parts sorted just got to decide on the chassis material.

Absolutely love it! Great to see this come to a successful conclusion, I love the paint job on the shell - with the alternative colours for the Union Jack!

BTW, Dennis is an absolute legend... he has helped me out a couple of time before with parts, very generous! It people like him that makes this hobby so enjoyable.

P.S; Any body off pics with the electrics installed?

PPS; I'm just wondering if your one-ways are installed the wrong way round - the photo suggests that your rear wheels are spinning but not the fronts - you should have 4wd on-power, then rear wheel drive only when it comes to applying the brakes?

I was wondering the same thing, so I switched them over, and it wasn't the case. I think there is slipping on the belts or the diff isn't biting as hard as it should. So before I take it all apart and rebuild I took it for a little thrash around the garden

I still think of all the rc cars, it is one of the best looking and certainly iconic.

Yes Demon, Reedy & the Schumacher modifieds were popular motors at my club when I first started racing in the late 80s. The MG brown dot was a 27t stock motor (not sure what wind the 'red-dot' was) I've got an MG orange dot to go in my TopCat, which was also a 27t stock but was I believe was the wet magnet version... this was the first non Mabuchi/Johnson 540 that I ever ran in my original TopCat.

A 27t stocker is going to feel a little sluggish in the 4wd CAT with its rather complex drive train sapping power.. I reckon a nice 15t triple would be just nice!

Bear in mind that any vintage motor probably won't perform quite as well as when it was new as the magnets do gradually go 'soft' over time

I was sponsored by MG motors - and i still have many of the 'works' motors they provided me with including brown dots, red dots and so on. I have them all in fact. They were all 27T standard motors. I'd forgotten about the 'wet magnets'.... good memory!

I also had one of those 'Schumacher' motors with exactly the same label, which was in fact sold as a Reedy Silver Dot (21double). I think it was a bit of clever sticker engineering between Schumacher and Reedy at the time - it was very very quick, in fact in my 2wd it was the fastest top speed i ever recorded on my Shinwa rolling road. I do also have a Schumacher 'Gold Nova' which was not associated with Mike Reedy i don't believe.
