gear diff in a 'gt

Post by SRTracer121 »

im wanting to try a gear diff in my one rc10gt, turns out i cant build a ball diff for this thing to save my life

so yall think the sc10 diff would drop in? or atleast wiggle in?

http://www3.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXXCX0&P=Z

as far as i know the same 52 tooth ball diff gear is used on the original gt all the way up to the current crop of cars so i figure itll fit but i dont have one on hand to find out.

my gut feeling says no. It looks wider because of the gear guts, and someone just mentioned the fact that some of the newer associated stuff is using metric bearings. Going by the 'related item's' list there, they call out 10x16mm bearings.

you're gonna have to move to the dirt oval realm and look for a kryptonite or idrc gt case. it will not be that easy..... from what i'm reading.

Pretty sure that the SC10 gear diff uses metric bearings for the out drives so it won't work with the old GT case.

If the Thunder Tiger Phoenix GT case uses metric bearings you might be able to use it instead.

It does use metric bearings. Why the big desire to run the gear diff?

I don't think he has a big desire to run the gear dif...I'm thinkin its because he can't get the ball diff rebuilt to save his life and can pick up a gear dif off ebay and drop it in...theoretically

Phoenix GT does use the same metric sized out drive bearings as the SC10 gear diff according to Tower:

just relax and try not to overthink it (like the traxxas ones  ) and it will come to you.

There is a stealth dif build tip thread around this forum somewhere that has some great info in it that would work for you on this gt diff...now just finding it...

after looking at the sc10 diff pictures i think it can be jimmmied into place just fine

http://www.amainhobbies.com/product_info.php/cPath/1_25_1450_1139/products_id/37000/n/Team-Associated-Complete-Gear-Differential bearings rides on the diff case and its plastic, at worse i could go down to bocabearings and have them take a look, maybe just grind down the plastic and use a bearing with a smaller ID with the same OD as the stockers.

how hard can it be?

This or if the balls have flat spots. Happened to me once and I was stumped till I replaced them.
