6 gear help - diff pinion stuck to diff tube
Is there some trick to get the diff gear off the diff tube. I have a bushing in there I'd like to replace with a bearing, but I can't seem to get the thing apart. Anyone have suggestions?

This can be tough sometimes. First I would try some break free or some type of penetrating lubricant. A side to side motion can loosen it up. Be careful with tools as both of these parts are soft metal. I have also used heat to get them apart. You do not need to get it very warm. Work quickly before the whole part reaches the same temp. The outside part will expand before the inner piece and they shlould release.

I gently banged it off. Since the gear doesn't go fully on the tube you can get something to fit inside the gear against te edge of the tube and tap it out. I just did mine and I may have used the fat part of the diff shaft to do it. Even though it really felt stuck on, mine came off fairly easy. Remember that when you put it back together that the diff tube does not come through even with the gear. It is recessed.

If things seem under control, you are just not going fast enough.

Spray a considerable amount of WD-40 onto the parts and let it sit for a minute or two. With a teethless long nose plier on the gear, give the plier a gentle tap with a hammer. It should be easy. At times, the dried grease or dirt jammed the whole thing.

get a big pair of wire cutters, the cutting jaws are angled, so you put the jaws open end facing the gear and a little squeeze and the gear pops right off. I know this is an old thread. But still a good tip.
