Stealth 2.25 build tips and tricks.

not steel, aluminum (or was it titanium), made by hg. long disco'd but i think he has one in his bst thread.

HG was ptfe annoed Aluminum, they did the top shafts as well in the same treatment, and 2.40 outdrives. They did a ti topshaft ( so did Robinson but is was undersized slightly which made good mesh impossible ) and one other vendor made ti outdrives.

Thanks for the tips Brandon! I did go ahead and purchase ceramics from Avid for the trans, and even found ceramic ball bearings for the diff. Probably overkill for my situation, but what the heck. The trans I'm doing for my runner is gonna be an all metal gear trans too, so might as well do it up right. I also purchased ceramic diff and thrust balls. Haven't seen much talk of them?
Aside from sanding the diff rings and thrust washers, any thoughts on polishing gears on an all metal geared trans? Thinking of using a dremel with a little metal polish.

Where did you find the steel diff gear for the 2,25 ??
I already have the RRP steel idler for my build

It is a gear made by HG. I just sold the last one I had left in the BST section. They are basically non-existant as I just got lucky last year and found a few new ones.

AAargh I only have two 2,25 diff gears left
what part no. are the diff outdrives for the 2,25 from Dynotech ?
or do they only have the 2,6 outdrives

Didn't the TRX-3 diff fit in the stealth ??
I got one of those in my basement ..I'll have to dig it up

+1 on the B4 top shaft and slipper. You can get these parted out of new T4, B4, or SC10's on ebay for cheap.

Sorry for the noob type question, but why do you use a B4 top shaft and slipper? Is there an advantage to this? or is it just that they are readily available?

The B4 slipper is easier to find and it's also easier to adjust

You will need to replace the thrust balls every time though. Many times people will rebuild their diff using new rings and diff balls but reuse the thrust assembly, then wonder why their diff still feels crunchy. Many times the thrust bearing is the main culprit.

I'm about to reuild my trans and when looking for parts found a "improved" thrust washer kit:

Now I just try and bid on a decent stealh on ebay, just to get some outdrives.

so I was wondering, does anyone know / have experience if the costum works outdrives work in a 2.25 stealth ?

Here's the GBX diff gear, It's a 48T gear so it won't fit the 2,25 but only the 2,4 like the B2 and B3
Unless you have a lathe and turn them down to the 2,25 size

Not a direct fit. The 2.25 rings have smaller I.D. and custome works rings O.D. won't fit the gear.

Yo Askbob, Being kinda new around here. The 6 Gear rebuild Thread (that was written by me) had a lot of positive feedback. Its not stickied but hoped to be Informative. With 514 Views maybe it has helped just one person. All of the info was found here spread throughout these Forums. The 6 gear info was very fragmented and required a bit of effort to find. The good part is every time a question was asked, someone jumped in and answered it. And so all of the info was easily gathered and put in one place. I'm getting ready to rebuild some older stealths. Having your knowledge of the Stealth Rebuild all concentrated in one thread would be great. Hopefully you create a guide on this. It sure would save a lot of interested parties a lot of time.

Going thru mine for my woin project...Will have to take some notes and keep them handy...I always used the dry ice [ teflon coating ] on all of my transmissions when i was racing oval yrs ago...It helped and kept everything much quieter...I also made sure the mesh with the pinnion and spur was set correct and went over all the gears and deburred them...And don't over grease anything...It only adds to friction which slows you down...Thanks for taking the time to put this together...
