Building a Vintage Racer

After deciding to retire my other cars to the shelf I started to look for something I can run in our vintage series.
I've ended up collecting lots of parts and before I could start the build I was trying to work out what to do with the gold nose & motor plate and the black chassis.
Fellow vintage racer Phil stepped in and has powder coated them all in this lovely orange finish (the chassis has many extra holes so I didn't mind straying away from standard!)


This reminds me of the AE chassis I had back when the fluro chassis were popular! (it's brighter than the pictures show) I'm very tempted to get a couple of other chassis of mine done the same colour now!

The rest of this build will continue fairly slowly but I'll try to get some pictures done as I go along

Opened up the ziplock bag today that I've been stashing my parts in, think I've got everything now!
It's a combination of some new bits like the RPM rear arms, hingepins, balljoints, MIP CVDS and B4.1 slipper, plus some nice alloy ballraced steering and quite a few used but not worn parts too.


Also ready to go on once I've finished is the Viper shell painted in a 1990's version of my current colours


Hopefully start assembling soon!

It'll be running a 10.5 GM brushless motor, Losi Xcelorin esc with 5000mah IP lipo.
I was running one of my team cars with an 8.5 and it was a bit fast for our track!
There are 5 rounds left of our vintage series and I'm building this car to see if I can hold off the Cougar2 and XX that the others will be running.

So I managed to spend some more time on it this evening and got the front end largely done


I then bolted it together


I just have a couple of pieces I'm going to ritdye black and then I can finish it

Completed dying the parts - plus a few others for a different project.
In case anyone was worried, the only parts I dyed weren't white to start with! The rather blotchy lilac bulkhead looks a lot better now!

Thanks, the black works well with the orange doesn't it?
It's brighter in real life too - cellphone camera doesn't really do it justice!

What type of dye did you use to do those pieces?

I will take some better quality pictures soon and add the electrics too.

It was Rit dye powder that I used - heated up on the stove using an old pan that my wife doesn't need anymore! The black dye covers up all the lilac, pale green and red wonderfully
