Vintage Clodbuster racer

Post by MelvinsArmy »

This project started shortly after the 09 vintage nationals. I saw the one Clod out in heavy metal class and had to build a vintage Clod to run next year. I had a nice old Sassy chassis in my collection, so that was the start. I added ESP links to give it better suspension than stock. I also put on some first generation RC10 shocks. It's rear is locked out to give it some stability and the front steering is controlled by a Hitec high torque servo mounted in the center, old school style. Right now it's just using two silver can motors until I figure out what to put in it for the race. Normally I'd just drop two 17x2s in a a Clod, but since I plan to race this truck at the nats, I'm just going to put in whatever is legal. This truck is also sporting a Novak Super Rooster ESC, twin Trinity heat sinks, full ball bearings and a few custom pieces I made.

Mr Lexan was kind enough to give me a Hawaiian Punch decal set a few months back and I've been waiting for the right project to use them on. This was it. Roland Leong's Hawaiian Punch was my favorite funny car as a kid. The Hawaiian body didn't turn out quite as nice as I hoped it would, but it's still pretty nice. It will make for a nice runner, along with the Tecnacraft wheels and Kyosho USA-1 tires it is also sporting an APM roll bar and visor. On race day I've got a nice unpainted Clod body with white stock wheels and Clod tires.

It's nice to have a vintage Clod again. I can't wait to race it.

Very nice but I better not catch you running it with those Tecnacrafts on it.
