Transpoders with Aluminum Tubs

Having a little trouble...

My M12 is using the 92524 FSS2 receivers in a few cars other than my main rig.

While using the standard AMB (three hole version) transponders with the M12 and 92524 in the aluminum tubs the signal is great. But while using the new smaller AMB transponders with the M12 and 92524 in the aluminum tubs, the signal is not good enough to pick up.

Here's my question: is there a way to make the signal stronger with my radio?
or should I just use the standard size transponders with the 92524s?

funny you mention this. at the vonats alot of us were having trouble with lap counting. the director said "alloy tubs don't let the signal through". i never had a problem before (this was with the small mrt/ptx transponders). when i put the three tab amb in it was fine.

i really think the cause was the lap counting wire being buried too deep. you are the first person other then racers at the vonats that i have heard having issue with signal strength.

how is the tracks wire laid out? buried? if so how deep?

i don't think you can manipulate the signal strength.

Well I have had my RC10 at three different tracks and I to have used MRT, three tab AMBs, and the newest smaller AMB in the car with no problems. I have mounted the transponders on the servo, on the tub, etc. Something is going on with the loop.

Not sure on the loop depth. But they do have house transponders and it is a first class track, so I would assume not too deep.

Thanks for the replies. I am going to keep the two smaller transponders in my b4 and 44 and get a third with three tabs velcroed for any tubs I may be racing that day.

Im puzzled, but not gonna stress about it.

I was able to run the t w/o any issues this weekend at another venue with the transponder on my rear shock tower.




Gonna try the same mounting location tomorrow at the track I've had difficulties at in the past.

It is most likely loop depth, as stated already. AMB says to bury the loop no greater than 1 inch and I think they (Bethel racearena) had it routed through a small PVC pipe and buried about 4" deep. They'll figure it out. Lap counting systems and they're associated counting programs have a quick learning curve!

I have never had the personal AMB transponders not count at any of the tracks I have been to when racing the aluminum tubs.

I meant to check their signal strength but never got around to it. That is usually a good indicator as to the wire health and loop depth.

Running a Mylaps transponder and had a bunch of problems at the Jconcepts race this past weekend. Got cheated out of my race win in the D-main because of it. I was mounting the transponder on top of my carbon fibre battery brace using an aluminum thumb screw. I moved it to the servo using doublestick tape for the C-main(bump ) and it counted every lap.

Why don't they just make a bridge(for the loop) like we did when they first came out?

i mount them to the top of the steering servo and have never had an issue except for the vonats.
the three tab amb worked fine but the mrt/ptx didn't, no matter where i put it, it would only count sometimes.
