Turnbuckle dimensions?

Post by jfharper »

Have they changed the diameter of the turnbuckles over the years? I need to repair a broken ball cup and wondered if my original titanium turnbuckles from my RC10 graphite will thread into these ball cups...I know the ball will fit, but what about the turnbuckle thread....anyone know?

as long as your tie rods are 4-40 they'll work.

That's the size and pitch of the threads on the rod. Are you outside the Imperial measurement range?

Thanks. What do you mean...by your question.
I wonder if I could measure my threads...I thought the nylon on ball cup came unthreaded. Was interested in diameter only...still confused.

Ok so i found a chart and 4-40 should measure 2.845 mm in diameter and mine measures 2.76mm so I think I'm ok

Charlie is asking if you are from a metric speaking place on the map, since you have no location in your info. By your reply it appears so.

for the rc10, all ball cups and turnbuckles should interchange pretty easily, the factory uses 4-40 threads. There are some other turnbuckles that are metric, or different thread pitch, but the ball cups, being made of nylon, will easily conform to the turnbuckles thread. 4-40 and 3mm screw sizes are close enough that ball cups will thread on, however, it's not a good idea to re-thread with a different turnbuckle if the cup has been used before.

Lunsford offers heavy duty turnbuckles that require different ball cups since the turnbuckles are much larger. But if you are not considering those, you should be fine.
