Recently I've purchased two vintage rcs' with the electronics. I want to run all vintage if possible but these two escs' will steer just fine but do not throttle. I swapped controllers and it didn't help. I also hooked the motor directly to the battery and the motor does work. My questions are could something not be adjusted correctly? Are they repairable? The novak is from a RC10 6036 and the tekin is from a Jrx-pro.
Put a digital multi meter across the motor wires to see if any voltage is coming through. Check both ( forward & reverse) You can have the servo reversing the wrong way.
Smell the ESC for any burnt smell. If so you have a burnt out FET.
Sounds like the BEC ( radio power) is working . Fingers crossed.
The tekin has a fuse on the top opposite the adjustment pots, pull it and check it. I replaced a million of them when I worked in the store 10 years ago.
When you try to throttle do you get any lights?

Thank you for the response, much respect for the people here on this forum.
I do not have a multimeter I might be able to borrow one at a later time. I tried both forward and reverse and they do not work. These cars have not been ran in a long time. Probably 15-20 years so they have a more dusty smell than burnt. I currently have 6 escs' that do not work, I'm thinking it might be possible to use parts from one and install in another to make something work. I just want to run the old buggies how they were before I convert to brushless. I was hoping to hear an easy solution.
Has anyone here used parts from several non working ones to build a good one?
i find it hard to believe you have 6 esc's and not one of them work. if you need help adjusting them, manuals for the novak and tekin can be found on their site.
I agree. I thought it would be an easy fix since they are steering. I burnt up 2 of them 20 years ago. One is my brothers that is damaged. The other three are from previous owners. Sorry to annoy or waste your time.
it's really hard to help you from behind a computer screen is what I think scr8p meant... the beauty of toying around with vintage electronics is the troubleshooting! Sometimes they don't work because of the way the setup is done, and to be frank before 1-touch setup (weren't novak the 1st ones?) it can be a bit of a pain to setup properly with all the pots and mate the settings to the radio - then again we've all become a bit too "plug-and-play". Sometimes they don't work because one of the protections (tekin fuse, for instance) did its job and burnt. Sometimes they actually work but the receiver doesn't, or there's some kind of weird radio conflict. Sometimes they don't work because they're simply toast
Donwload the instructions when they're still available, and try again methodically with the instructions and a cold beer in front of you, remember that we could make them work when we were 13 y.o. and no forum replaces trial-and-error ... chances are you'll find out soon whether it's just you who didn't try hard enough so far... of if they're burnt for real!

Thanks to everyones' responses so far, I thought that steering and no throttle was a common problem and a quick turn of the post all is well. Like I said I personally burnt up two and they do not steer, no lights or anything. When these could steer I thought these two were almost ready. I probably did get excited seeing life to these old awesome cars that I haven't driven in 20 years and couldn't think for myself for a bit.
At age 12 sure I could set these up, no manual, no problem.
Everyone's suggestions have helped, I have found a new fuse for the tekin ( haven't ordered yet but It is there) and I have downloaded manuals for the 410 and 610 novaks hopefully one will eventually work.
I will try my best to get these working and post the solution for anyone else that has or will have these same issues.
When I tested the esc I had it plugged into the battery port on the receiver which is wrong. I read on the novak site that the 610 needs to be plugged into channel 2 on the receiver and it works perfect.

glad to see it worked for you

This RC10 I have been working on came with an ESC that was dead to the world when I got it a few weeks ago. I took the screw out (disassembling the ESC) and wiggled the components around GENTLY and it started working again. I also took electronics cleaner to it WITHOUT a battery being hooked up. No problems since I got it going.
Back in the day before ESC's came out a reverse circuit was accomplished in rc cars/buggies using a micro switch. Dose anyone remember what size ceramic resistor was used to reduce power in the reverse circuit?
i won this on ebay last week. does anyone know around what year this model came out? mainly, i'm just wondering if it's old enough to put in my 6010 queen.

thanks for the info. i also thought it was odd that both plugs were the same. i was also stumped on the wires. it looked like there was 2 red and 2 blue. but the more i looked at them, the neg. battery wire is actually a blushish gray. it made it...
As the title says , I'd like to know how reliable an old vintage ESC would be , something like a Novak 410 for instance , I like to run my cars so any electronics need to work plus I don't want to ruin a nice vintage bit of kit by using it .
So are...

I run several vintage ESC and motor combinations and have no issues. I don't run lipo. NiMh and some older 3000 mAh NiCds - everything works just fine. I have a couple Optima Mid's and my favorite has a LeMans 240SB (that's an old 30,000 RRM mill)...
I'm finishing up my Losi Jrx-Pro and want to find the speed control I used to use long ago. It was made by Tekin, and it was squard with a keypad on the top...no heatsinks or anything. It was an awesome ESC for its time. Can anyone help me out with...

I'll take a look see if I can find that thing somewhere.
spent the day digging in my parts bins
dug out all my old esc went through all of them and salvaged what I could (tossed the rest )
ended up with several nice vintage esc's working and ready to install in a build
still have one old futaba esc to...
Hi.
I have these old Tekin ESC's. Anyone that have any info on these? Years, specs etc.

Just to add some additional details: the Pro Tempfet ESC600 only had 3 wires for improved efficiency. This is mentioned in the manual. That means the image in the OP is an ESC300.
