Gearing help
I was wondering if you would be able to help me gear my rc10. I have an A stamp 6 gear from the mid 80's with a newer Ready stock motor, Novak t4, and b3 wheels. I hope to run a lipo to race with but might have to drop back to a 6 cell. I was also wondering about switching to 48pitch gears.
Thanks for the help!

are kimbrough (<---sp?) if i rememeber right. i always ran 81 so they are the only ones i can show pics of
if you have a real torque'eee motor step up your pinion
if its a high rpm motor step it down
one way other than heat and batt time to see if you are in the ball park! is on your track go down the straight at full race speed and listen to when your motor whinds out if about five to to feet from the end of the straight its topped out you are just about right
if its still trying to gain speed you are to tall in the gearing
if it topps out real quick coming onto the straight its to short
now this is just the way i do it and may not work for your track i ,i have been to tracks where the straight was only a small shoot between a set of doubles so you have to gear for torque for getting up to speed real quick

Re: Gearing help
Is this running 2.2" rims/tires?? I switched to 2.2" B3 wheels and I was getting a very hot motor. I was running something like 11/54 in 32p which should be similar. I checked the drivetrain and it was free. I tried the motor with no load and it was fine..... So I must be way off with my gearing.farmer wrote:if you are running a 32 pitch im not sure but if you are running the 48 pitch like i have in mine 19/81 up to a 21/81

Re: Gearing help
yes im running 2.2 rims ,sounds like you r over geared, but check everything again all the way down to your hub bearings, see if you have any blown out, are you running bearings on the case of the outdrives on the 6 gear, are r they the felt spacers, also make sure you are not over tightning the wheel to the wheel hub ive had some old rims that were starting to rub the hubs do to overtightning, you can still get the gear at amain hobbys i belive under vintage parts ,there is a thread on here called I NEED A SPUR GEAR there is a link in there also check your gear mesh if its to tight it can heat up your motor,

Re: Gearing help
Well I picked up a 81 tooth pinion and a set of pinions (16,18,20,22,24,26) so I should be able to get close. I will let you know how it works out.
Thanks again
