Topcat/Cougar Thrust Bearing

Post by RCveteran »

I thought I read Losi ones will work, one on left is Schumacher and 8mm across, all the Losi ones I have are like the one on the right and 10mm. Anybody know of something that is the 8mm size?

It must be the XX thrust bearing that works. It is smaller than the LRM one.

The only thrust bearings I used BITD were the Losi units. The one you have there must be a later unit. -Jeff

Now that you mention it I do remember the TB being smaller on the LRM. Is the larger one the heavy duty?

450 trex helis (and clones) use similar sized thrust bearings in their blade grips. They have a pressed cage that keeps the little balls captive.

I haven't tried them yet, but have a feeling they may come close to fitting the diffs of our old schueys.

3x8x3.5mm thrust races are readily available from eBay but because the Procat axles are 1/8 inch (about 3.2mm) only one of the thrust plates will fit. I had to buy two bearings to make one. Is this also the case with the Topcat axle?

You are right, that thrust is all over the place, I am not sure I follow what you are saying about the axles though. The factory set up does have two washers and in addition I have read the back threads about using 3 belleville (cone shaped) washers as well.

The bearing comes with two thrust plates, one with i.d. 3mm and one about 3.2mm. Only one of these will fit over the 1/8 diameter axle hence you need to buy two bearings. That's what I found anyway. If you find a proper 1/8 bearing with two larger plates let me know :D

Yep, don't forget the disc springs either  for some reason Schumacher left these out of some manuals e.g. Bosscat.

I gotcha, I ordered some off ebay that appear to have both thrust washers so we shall see.

The 450 T-rex thrust assembly fits perfectly. Luke, maybe you got a defective set?

Really, you mean both plates fit over the 1/8" axle?

Ahh, just realised we may not be talking about the same thing. Mine's a Procat Axle/thrust assembly. The T-Rex450 jobbie fits this. Apologies if I mislead ya's

No problem but the Procat diff axles are definitely 1/8" (3.2mm) so that's good to know both the T-Rex thrust washer plates fit.
