Pick up a black tub gt off ebay and I am just now getting around to getting it running. However, I am having some issues. I can get it running(off the ground) with good throttle response but I can not get it to idle. The rear wheels ALWAYS want to keep moving.
It has what I believe is a .12R TNT Dynamite engine with MIP stinger exhaust. One thing I did notice is that is has a four shoe clutch without any springs. Associated clutch? Could it be that the clutch is engaging at all rpm's since the shoes are flopping around? Or I am not doing something right. I have some, but not too much nitro experience.
Associated had a 4 shoes clutch. Works good but needs alot of cleaning/sanding type maitenance to keep them working properly. First set I had like this worked good for about 3-4 tanks of fuel and started sticking again. After a few times doin this I went in and picked up an MIP flywheel/clutch assy and RRP steel bell/spur combo...I just needed the excuse to do it
Sounds like you hit it on the head that the shoes are sticking and won't let it come to an idle without moving. Try sanding the inside of the clutchbell and sanding the shoes. If that doesn't work replace your clutch shoes. Best all time hopup for these is the MIP 4n1 clutch with a spring to disengage the clutch when rpms are down.

You may be able to adjust the brakes also. Be careful though, there is a fine line between holding it in place and just causing excess drag off the line.

don't remember for sure. That heavyweight flywheel from MIP was hanging on the way and was frustrated with messing with that 4shoe. You might be able to pull/push/cut 2 of the pins off your AE flywheel and use the MIP 4n1 with it. I know you have to cut off some of the pins you use anyway or push them towards the back for the spring clearance. Would have to see it first and I don't have one left anymore to compare or get pin placements.

Decided against messing with associated clutch and just ended up going with the mip clutch and a mip heavy weight flywheel. Is it me or are the Mip flywheels hard to find?
they are getting harder to find but not that hard yet. I think since gas truck pretty much died off all over the place there are still some hanging on hobby shop hooks

Yea I'm sure there are some floating around in local hobbies shops. The hobby shops around my house kind of suck in reguards to finding stuff for older cars so I was hoping to find the parts online. I could not find any for sale other than the one on ebay. lol
On a side note I also managed to score a new black tub off AE's site along with a new nose plate from a member here. When I decide to do a resto and retire it to the shelf I will have already jumped over one of the major hurdles lol Everything else seems easy to find....for the time being.
