With the advent of brushless, newer battery technology, and speed controls....I'm excited to get my RC10 running again. Currently have stock brush motor and gearing. Not real interested in taking the car apart but just getting her back up and running through the addition of a new speed controller, motor, and battery. I've done some reading but generally confused about the best balance of parts. I don't have a ton of time on my hands these days to research all the various combinations so I'm looking to buy, install, and go for it! Not sure if it is as simple as going with something like a
Reedy 540R 3300Kv/XP AND SC-450BL ESC Power System.
Some general guidelines regarding my interests:
- I have off-road tires and a set of slicks...but would likely spend most time off-road: dirt, grass, rock.
- would definitely like reverse and braking (not sure if that is standard these days)
- probably looking for moderate levels of speed/torque so that the machine is still controllable...i'm sure anything is going to be faster than the fairly fast machine I was used to 15+ years ago.
- like the idea of a lower-maintenance brusheless system as long as the speed is managable, won't mess up stock gearing, and the run-time is great (15-20minutes say?)
- probably won't be doing any motor switching, gear switching, etc....just looking for an one-size-fits-all sort of setup
- I am looking to spend $100-$200 total (ideally)
I'm sure some of my remarks are indicative of my being unplugged from the sport for so long. Let me know if you have any questions regarding the info above or if I've left anything out, and thanks in advance for any advice you can offer someone that wants to jump back into the hobby.
Best,
Blake

A system pulled from an RTR kit like the one you mentioned would be a good choice. I would go with some lipos and a lipo charger from someone like Hobby King. You did not mention if you car had the 6 gear or stealth transmission. Either way a teardown and rebuild of the transmission would be a good idea.
