Newbie seeking easy paint and sticker scheme for RC10 gold pan
I just picked up my first RC10 ( https://www.rc10talk.com/viewtopic.php?f=35&t=47069 ) and I'm not terribly fond of the paint on the body. I'll be purchasing a new protech or similar body to work with. I'm wondering if there are any SIMPLE color patterns that are not too involved that a rookie could achieve success with that look good. I plan to add some decals from MCI to dress things up so please keep that in mind. What type of paint is used on these? Would love to see some examples or ideas/tips/tricks from you experts out there.. THANKS!

These are my currently completed cars. All are simple spray can paint jobs.
The paint is specifically made for polycarbonate. I use Duratrax, Tamiya, and Spaz Stix paints.

Some awesome examples! Good work.. I love the "old school" orange one in the center. Also love the light blue on the far left. Do you happen to remember which colors you used on these? Where did the decals come from?juicedcoupe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 3:51 pm These are my currently completed cars. All are simple spray can paint jobs.

Also, what would it take to recreate the original body pictured on the box of an original RC10? Is there a recipe for this? (sorry, maybe a redundant question)

The gold car in the back is very similar to one of the box versions, there were a few different ones.
It uses Tamiya camel yellow, full can. Then it's backed in silver.
The decals are mostly MCI. The Futaba decals are the only exception.
The blue car uses Tamiya brilliant blue. I think it's backed in silver and then black. The stripes are Duratrax silver streak and metallic black.

Re: Newbie seeking easy paint and sticker scheme for RC10 gold pan
One thing I've learned when trying to match a certain color, is how important it is to select the right backing color. On an RC10 I painted a few years ago, I backed the camel yellow with white and the final color is too bright (too orange).
If I ever do another one, it will backed with silver.
To my eye, the final color on juicecoupe's car is about the best match I've seen.

These look great. Are these OEM or aftermarket body's? Anything I should look out for there in terms of fitment? This looks easier than I thought! Thanksjuicedcoupe wrote: ↑Tue Feb 01, 2022 4:16 pm The gold car in the back is very similar to one of the box versions, there were a few different ones.

Re: Newbie seeking easy paint and sticker scheme for RC10 gold pan
The yellow is a reproduction Protech 1. The blue is a JConcepts Detonator Worlds (the red car is as well).
Note that the blue car has a different front setup, requiring that the body be cut more.
IMHO, the JConcepts bodies have a little better fit than the vintage and reproduction bodies.
The metallic gold car is a JConcepts Protector, with a reproduction RC10 wing.
Protech 1 bodies are a crap shoot for fitment, and the yellow car was no exception. Protech 2 and Viper bodies usually have clearance issues around the rear shock tower.
