individual cell heat shrink

Post by badattitude »

I've read a couple threads regarding vintage battery restoration. I'm restoring a set of black 1700 SANYO’s as well. I have removed the original clear heat shrink that was on each cell.

Now I need to put new heat shrink on. It looks like I need 1 inch clear heat shrink. Where can I source this size and color?

I'll get some pics up tonight but they are just regular black SCRC SANYO’s. They look new after removing the old heat shrink and I want to get these babies covered before I accidently damage the nice labels!

Next will be soldering on new battery bars. I'm not sure if I'll glue them again. The battery bars may be enought.

Thanks!

if you don't plan on running them, the battery bars might be enough, but it might be a good idea to just use a line of hot glue on the underside of the cells, to give you a little bit more insurance. The hot glue is easily peeled off too.

don't run them though, they would get hot enough to melt the glue......

I found this on ebay. I think this will work for wrapping individual sub c 1700 mah Sanyos:

This is 1.25 inch or 31mm heat shrink tube.

I also found the single cell wrap at Towerhobbies. I guess I didn;t look hard enough the first time, lol

new pics

I removed the battery braid to seperate the cells.
Then, used goof off to remove the solder flux and some CLR on a toothbrush to remove the leakage on the top of the batteries. Both products worked well. neither of those products damaged the plastic. I hope the clr didn't ruin the battery, I used it sparingly.

I cut a few millimeters off one of the cells that had burn damage on the bottom. I'm not going to address the burn damage seen on the top of the cell in the pic below. I would make it worse if I tried anything.

Also, they look better in real life than in the photos. The camera shows all the imperfections,

Thanks for the offer. :D

I actually got the single cell heat shrink from Tower yesterday. I have wrapped the cells and will post pics tonight. They look so good with the fresh heat shrink.

Pics now attached, I'm not sure where I want to use these. I'll leave them seperated for now. They arn't perfect but I'm real happy with the results. BTW-These came from 8rad here on rc10talk.
