Nitro body heat shield?

Has anyone fabbed a heat shield for their car body? I mean for between the body and the pipe. I just ran a new engine and pipe in a new body together for the first time and it seems the pipe hits a spot on the body and melted the paint there. I'm thinking of just taking aluminum foil and taping it to the spot on the body, but I'm curious if anyone has done something like this before or used something else.

You might give metal tape a try. Its a thin aluminum type tape with an adhesive backing.

3M has different grades and thicknesses available.
