Re: My old-new gold tub project...
Yup, no modification other than enlarging the B4 sized .109" hingepin hole with a reamer to .125" for RC10 pins. The hubs are flopped to opposite sides for better alignment of the linkage, but it's probably not necessary. I'm not sure why people are machining their rear hubs, everything fits just fine as it is right out of the package.delsami wrote:b44 rear cvd's and b4 rear hub carriers?
I get some slight interference at full compression with the tire insides on the shock bottoms, but the drivetrain is fully free and clear of any issues.

Re: My old-new gold tub project...
Luckily I haven't bought or milled anything like I planned. The rear B44 CVA bone is 31mm shorter than the B4 CVD bone and when using the B4 CVD the rear hub is being milled out to accommodate for it's length. I thought they were using the B4's because the B44 were too short, but now that I see this I am reconsidering things. I am using RPM Team Car arms with B4 hubs, but that's as far as I got.Eau Rouge wrote:I'm not sure why people are machining their rear hubs, everything fits just fine as it is right out of the package.delsami wrote:b44 rear cvd's and b4 rear hub carriers?

Re: My old-new gold tub project...
Except all of the length difference is in the bone, not in the hub/axle. B44 rear CVDs new out of the package, B4/B44 hubs (not the dual bearing size version) and used the included shims on the outside of the hub to make sure everything was as far away from the drivetrain as it could be. Standard .125" thick Associated axle washers on the outside and the bearing crush sleeves on the inside. I'll pull a wheel and take a picture of the setup in a few minutes.vintage AE wrote:Luckily I haven't bought or milled anything like I planned. Re: My old-new gold tub project...
Hey Doug, what kind of rear track do you get with that recipe? Closer to stock RC10 or to B4?
Clean job as always!

Re: My old-new gold tub project...
Thanks. The rear track is very close to an original RC10, when you include the B4 wheel/offset.Asso_man! wrote:Hey Doug, what kind of rear track do you get with that recipe? Closer to stock RC10 or to B4?

Measured from the face of the drive pin wheel mounting area without wheels on, then measured from the center of the axle line with wheels installed, to remove rear toe-in from the measurement:
- Stock RC10: 7.375" rear track width (9.000" with jellybean wheels/tires installed)
Modified RC10 with B4/B44 outer drivetrain: 8.000" rear track width (9.250" with B4 wheels/tires installed)
Stock B4: 8.313" rear track width (9.750" with b4 wheels/tires installed)

Doug, I know you don't care for Associated shocks, but come on.Eau Rouge wrote:I used Associated shock shafts for the inner hinge pins front and rear ...

Seriously, nice build! BTW, have you used those shorty servos in an off road application before?

They have to be used for something!aeiou wrote:Doug, I know you don't care for Associated shocks, but come on.Eau Rouge wrote:I used Associated shock shafts for the inner hinge pins front and rear ...![]()

Yeah, I have used the s9550/s9551 for steering in 2wd and 4wd buggies, as well as modified dirt oval applications like sprint cars and EDMs. I have another in the front of my Atomic Carbon S2 and one in my Durango SlimB4. This one was previously in a touring car. I have always had great performance with them—on par with the s9450/s9451 Futaba servos.aeiou wrote:Seriously, nice build!
