Old & New buggy started (Tub braces milled, tranny mounted)

I decided to pull out the 10T that has been a big contributer to my other build. As you can see there is not much left but it has everything I need to start my project. I machined my other car a bit different than the Worlds tub and I wanted to make this one similar but still different in a way.

The worlds car tub has 7/16 slots milled so I decided run a 1/2 end mill to be a bit different. I also decided to push the depth a bit since I wanted really defined slots in the chassis. Everything was going absolutely perfect until my final pass (I was an inch from being done). My end mill went through the bottom of the chassis

I am just going to have to play it safe like I did previously on the next one. I am so pissed off I can't stand it.

We can add this one to cheese grader tubs thread floating around here somewhere. Anyone wnat a chassis, you have to pay shipping and it is yours. It is nice and straight with a big ass hole cut in it. Off to find a new one.

Ouch! man that sucks. I always hate when a good thing goes bad so close to completion. I'm planing on doing some mill work on a team car I have to get that genuine "worlds" chassis look. Seems all the team drivers had their chassis milled after they were annodized.

When I was reading this and you mentioned that you wanted it a bit deeper I got worried of what I was going to reed next.

You know this screwup has got me thinking a bit. I am thinking about finishing the cuton the screwed up side, then make mill the rest of the chassis on the opposite side. Once I see daylight on both sides figure out a way to fill the slots with nylon or CF. The only thing I can come up with is epoxy to hold the peices in and I doubt that would even come close to being strong enough without popping out.

Any ideas out there from the masses?

cut strips of aluminum, tack weld around it throwing a wet rag on it quick to prevent material distortion, and once done, DA the surface flush and have it reanodized black. Keep it!

Ruff, that sounds like a good idea but I don't have the knowledge or equipment to do it. I would probably end up with a completely useless lump of aluminum if I tried to weld this thing. Let me call around to some of the wleding shops in town to see what they would charge for something like that. I am afraid I would be better off finding a junker on eBay. I have several spotted right now.

That isn't too bad of an idea either. It would definately be a tight fit if I narrowed the chassis enough. I could always chop the sides off then have new sides welded in place after the chassis was cut.

eh....I think I would just mill out both sides now, leave it as is, and run a lexan undertray, that someone makes here, that is a very tight fit up on the chassis. keeps the dirt out, and you won't lose any strength. the tissue paper left over after the mill wasn't very stiff anyway i'm guessing.....

BTW, it looks like the hole tore out, probably from the countersink being a little too far in on that one hole.

Make four holes on each side build it run it lol.With it recessed like that some thin graphite would look sweet in the slots.If you machined the graphite to fit in the holes itself and the rest flush with the inside floor of chassis problem solved and be killer looking.Don

You know, you just gave me a great idea. I was going to have this chassis ano'd but since this has happened I have started looking into other otions. I am going to have the chassis powdercoated and I can easily make some CF strips that will fit in the slots.
