slipper upgrade

Post by Mr. ED »

Hey, does anybody know if it is possible to upgrade atcp (trx-3) to the current slipper design of traxxas?
And is this a real improvement or should I look for a dual-pad slipper like the madrat etc?

Do the part numbers cross for the top shafts on the trx3 and the nitrohawk/rustler? without checking myself right off hand I couldn't tell ya but if they do the new slipper setup will interchange with the newer top shaft. If I get a chance later tonight after Zoey gets to sleep I'll do some lookin MrEd. Something I'm interested in anyway since I finally got a complete trx3 worthy of doin something with.

p.s. Forgot to add that Yes it is a good upgrade. I like the older setup also but the newer setup rocks!

The hex length on the TRX-3 topshaft is 1mm shorter compared to the Rustler topshaft but they are same total length

My Bandit VXL topshaft fit in the TRX-3 tranny
the 22T top-gear #3195 and the idler gear #3696 also fit in the TRX-3
I didn't test to see if the gear cover would clear the VXL spur on the TRX-3 tranny

Guess I was late to this one. Snoopmaxx allready said what I was gonna say. The shaft length difference won't matter but I don't know about the gear cover either. Good luck and let us know how it turns out.

Thanks for the info, both.
I'm not keen on trying the other gears: the original top-gear is one tooth smaller; not a big difference in total diameter but enough to cause some binding and wear. (And I have a new top-gear and idler to replace the old already).
In the tower catalog I have seen 2 different types of slipper-insides: 1 with a kind of felt pad, and the other with what looks like a clutch for a gas car. Both parts referred to the vxl... confusing
