T3 Slipper/Diff Spring?

Post by MONSTER »

I decided to rebuild my T3 Tranny, and found that the Spring in the Diff was VERY difficult to remove. It made me wonder if I (or someone before me) had maybe switched the Diff and Slipper Spring. They look to be the same length and OD, but the one in the Diff was thicker, and Silver, the one on the Slipper was thinner, and Black.

Can anyone tell me if they were in their proper place before I reassemble?

Isnt there a T3 Guru in here that could clear this up for me?

If I HAD to guess, I would think the "heavier looking" spring (silver), actually goes in the Diff. It was just so hard to get out, I had to second guess it a bit.

I figured someone would know, or may have recently done a rebuild and notice the difference in the 2 springs.

I believe you can test whether a spring is for the diff or slipper by fitting it to the top shaft. The diff spring has a slightly smaller inner diameter and won't fit the top shaft where as a slipper spring apparently will. I have a T3 and and can tell you the slipper spring is the same on all pre-B4/T4 rc10s. All rc10 diff springs are the same. Color wise, that sounds right, silver diff and black slipper spring.
Old school racing all the way!

Thanks, that makes sense, since they seem to be the same on the outside, but the silver one is thicker, so the INSIDE should be smaller and may not fit the Slipper Shaft that is larger than the Thrust Bolt. DUH!!! I did try them both in the Outdrive, and they fit about the same. No idea why I didnt do the opposite.

Thanks again 8) , I'll check that out as soon as I get off of here.
