I need some help installing my crp hornet suspension

Does anybody have a picture of the crp front suspension for the hornet installed? I just bought it for my hornet, and I can;t figure out how to install it.

hello,

I assume that your kit came with the aluminum front shock tower and the oil shocks. If this is the case, you will need to cut the existing plastic shock tower which is part of the chassis.

You will then mount the crp shock tower under the chassis (between the arms and the chassis. 2 holes will have to be drilled so you can secure it in place. After that's it's pretty simple.

Attached is a picture of a modified version of the kit you have. I installed it on my on-road hornet.

Yes they are. The front suspension came in either chrome or black. The Panda Cyclone and Mugen Manx were identical so they used the same suspension.

Unfortunately, that kit won't fit a hornet because the arms aren't molded with the correct angles. There 2 major design flaws:

1. The shock monts are too close to the center of the car. If you look at the front of an off road car, the shocks should angle towards the outside of the arms...like a capital A. The CRP arms have the wrong mounting points, so it looks like a V when everything is bolted in.

2. The angle of the arms (when looking from the top) are incorrect. The outer hinge pins should be parallel. When everything is mounted, the hinge pins are pointed inwards (by a lot).

I'm positive of this because I tried the same kit on my hornet and it wouldn't bolt up correctly. Infact, the kit didn't even work on a Tamiya striker (which is suppose to be very close to the FX10).

The bottom line is, with enough modification, you can make these parts fit. I decided not to because I wanted a factory look. You can find the suspension kit on ebay. I've picked up 3 of them so far.

I used the CRP kit on a lunchbox several years ago, (2000 ish), and put up a page about it:

clicking the link on the top of the page will take you to a page of pictures of the build. Unfortunately they are not very high res as that was well before I had a real digicam, they were taken with a cheapie USB webcam.
The kit fit onto the lunchbox fairly well. Steering was much better, but I eventually removed it as the lack of steering is one of the joys of driving the lunchbox.
I may have to revive the conversion and add a lexan body to build a sleeper for the heavy metal class next year. . .

the wheels seem to lean out on the top from the last pic. Is that because the front of the car is lifted? If they are like this on normal ride-height, you'd better replace them with some correct length turnbuckles. I understand it would be a shame as the are part of the CRP kit, but yu could use something that would have been a correct hop-up for the kit bitd too.

Probably because he doesn't know what he's doing since he is using MY photos of MY buggy that I figured out how to fit the FX10 CRP kit on the Hornet. To make the wheel camber right is to make turn buckles using Traxxas ends, and turn them in to lean the tires back in at the top.
