Kyosho TF-3

Post by Dangeruss »

In 1997 Kyosho replaced their TF-2 1/10 4wd electric touring car with the TF-3. As an evolution of the TF-2 the location of many hard mounting points and supporting components remained the same. New however was the redesigned double deck fiberglass plate chassis. Front width was reduced by .06 inches and the entire width of the car could be changed from a ROAR and IFMAR legal 190mm to 120mm for sport racing. This was accomplished by each of the symmetrical lower a-arms having a pair of holes to mount the hubs while turnbuckle camber links allowing for adjustability up top. Steering was also improved by offsetting the servo mount to the passenger's side and implementing a new double bellcrank steering system with revised Ackerman and built-in spring-loaded servo saver. New aluminum bodied coilover shocks with bottom loading seals attached to fiberglass plate shock towers in a heavily laid down configuration. The remainder of the mid-motor, twin belt, open bulkhead gear diff/one-way front bearing driveline with steel dogbones was carried over from the TF-2. Mesh style wheels with rubber slick tires and foam liners kept the car stuck to the pavement and the unassembled kit included a small front bumper, bearings and was offered with either a Lotus GT1 or Mclaren GTR clear lexan body in the Sport model. There was also a chassis only version that came without a body and used TF-2 five spoke wheels and tires. A Type-R version released in 1998 with a graphite chassis and upper deck relieved for saddle mounted batteries , one-way center diff, front and rear ball diffs, front universal shafts, metal motor mount and Teflon coated shocks but without wheels and tires. And a Type-R ‘99 released in 1999 that further added hard graphite a-arms, lower offset hub carriers, blue anodized motor mount and revised graphite double deck chassis with separate servo mounting plate, sans wheels and tires. All kits however, were sold less electronics and radio:
