2WD Buggy wheel identification.

Sometimes aluminum wheels show up on eBay that speak to me and I have the money to listen which is the case here. The seller didn't know a single thing about them, and they used a bad pic that made them look purplish. I knew they were diamonds in the rough but didn't want to pay as much as I did being a gamble what they fit. I haven't taken any measurements yet, just stood at the sink for half an hour cleaning them up. They were covered in dust, black specs of something, and carpet fibers for some reason. As you can see they came out very nicely. They haven't been polished at all, that's their original machined finish.

Any idea on the manufacturer? They seem vintage but that doesn't mean they are. The closest in my mind to the style is T&A but these seem to have a little smaller hole than what I've seen of T&A's offerings.

I believe T&A offered these 6 holes. Duratrax were 8 holes and very similar. The rears are pin drive?

Yup, the rears are pin drive. Duratrax have a similar design but not similar quality. I don't know if it's the aluminum they used or what. That's an entirely different discussion though.

I'll be able to get some measurements on these sometime tonight.

I agree with that. Not the best angle to judge from but here are the T&A wheels I have. Rears are also for 1/4” axles.

Huh... I never considered that. I figured the holes were smaller in the rear wheels due to the cone in the middle. What I didn't notice until now is that the rears have a lip where it seems T&A ones do not. I have several sets of Duratrax wheels, and they definitely aren't them so hmmmm. With this new revelation I'm way more irked now that I paid $100 for these. They also have superficial scratches around all the edges the picture hides. Not from being run though as they don't have any signs. This is the first time something like this has happened but it taught me to scrutinize even more in the future.

Luckily it isn't a total loss that they aren't a matching set as fronts alone are important to me due to being used extensively on pulling trucks. I'm always on the lookout for vintage front aluminum wheel pairs as a result.

The possibly T&A front wheels are 2.2 diameter. Did T&A even make a 2.2 wheel? They have around a 0.3085 diameter hole for the bearings. What typical size bearings do buggies use that might fit?

The mystery rear wheels are 2.0 diameter so I'm assuming they're considered 1.9s? The axle hole diameter is around 0.1550 but it's hard to tell as I had to go on a slight angle to get the calipers in there due to the wheel depth.

They look a lot like the wheels that Franky in Hong Kong is making. Or maybe he's making a copy of the wheels you have.

Yeeeeesssssss wow, I believe you're right! I'll have to hold them up to the screen to compare but I'm 99% sure that's them. It also explains all the confusions I had.

The good news is I now know what they are. The bad news is I paid only $15 less than what a new set goes for. Ah well, that's how it goes sometimes but I don't like it.

With this information, I really have no use for them. I have an RC10 CE but would like to keep it all stock, and I have other actual vintage RC10 wheels anyway. They'll likely find their way back on eBay later this spring if I get around to it. At a loss of course but I'm fine with that.
