SC10 2wd - 1/8 Buggy Conversion
SC10 2wd - 1/8 Buggy Conversion
Hey all, has anyone here tried to convert their 2wd SC10 into an 1/8 buggy? I've seen a t4 conversion kit, and a few home made SC10 conversions online, so I decided to try it out. I'm aware that 2wd 1/8 buggy isnt an actual class, yet, but I like to be different. In any case theres the Sportsman class for this limosine, but my goal with this conversion is to inspire a true class for it.
To begin, I placed an order for SC10, 17mm hex wheels adapters and a set of RC8 wheels. I'm hoping that the hex hub adapters provide a slightly wider stance once mounted. I'm looking at the Jconcepts Ve8 body, and a set of Losi taper pin, buggy pink compounds.
I stripped all the SC bumpers, side gaurds, and body mounts. I'll be using a set of short Associated body mounts, mounted to the existing side gaurd mounting holes, to hold the Ve8 body. Not sure yet what to do for a wing, but I do like the wide 6.5 Jconcepts Punisher wing for the B4.1. The stock B4.1 wing mounts seem too low for to this conversion, so I'll probably have to adapt an actual 1/8 mounting setup.
Thats all for now, but I'll post a begining project pic of the bare chassis later on today. Heres an online pic of the Jconcepts Ve8 body... Thanks
(This is not my buggy below, its a reference pic for the body I want to use... but since pictures rule over reading, lets see how many compliment me on it )

Re: SC10 2wd - 1/8 Buggy Conversion
Nice Buggy!
J/K. I like the idea and I think it would be a lot of fun to race such a class. I'm pretty certain there's a thread in the tech section about someone at least starting a similar project. I can't remember how it ended off hand and I don't have time to search right at the moment(I'm hanging new blinds... lots and lots of blinds... ). I'm very interested to see how this turns out though.

Can't find it for the life of me. Could have just been a Hunter S. Thompson flashback. Sorry. Please keep us updated.THEYTOOKMYTHUMB wrote:I'm pretty certain there's a thread in the tech section about someone at least starting a similar project.

I've seen many backslash conversions, even an HPI Blitz conversion. Looking forward to seeing the SC10 conversion.

Re: SC10 2wd - 1/8 Buggy Conversion
Personally I would just like a buggy body for the sc10. Just getting rid of that giant body would get the biggest handling advantage for the money. If jconcepts would make a short course buggy body i would buy one in an instant even though it wouldn't look scale like the losing scb. Plus wind wouldn't ruin an otherwise fun day of running at the local track. But I mainly run at a track in a local park and don't race nearly as much as I used to.

Re: SC10 2wd - 1/8 Buggy Conversion
- Jconcepts / Hot Bodies Ve8 body
- Jconcepts 6.5 Punisher / B4 wing
- RC8 17mm wheels
- Losi King Pins, pink compound
- STRC / SC10 wheel adapters (for now)
The STRC rear wheel adapters have a slight design flaw, and require a stand-off type axle nut, not included with the kit. If I cant find the right nut, I'll switch to AKA's conversion hubs. I'm looking into 1/8 scale shocks next.

I like it as it sits, just paint it up and run it.
For big bore shocks, doesnt the SC10 4X4 have a shock bigger than 1/10th but smaller than 1/8th big bores? Bout the same as the TLR 22/22T and SCTE shocks?

Re: SC10 2wd - 1/8 Buggy Conversion
Im not sure about the SC10 4wd shocks, but my buddy has the RC8e, and I think they're 16mm shocks on it. I have to do some research before investing. As far as the 1/8 scale wing, I really like how 1/10 scale buggys look with low profile wings.

I like it! Are there any options for ribbed front tires that are maybe a bit more narrow? What are your ideas for a paint/decal scheme?

You would need a SC10 chassis, A-arms, shocks, and shock mounts.iVTEC4LIFE wrote:I wonder if i could straight convert my B4 into that...... It looks amazing!!!!
If these start to catch on, or if they can run in 1/8 class, I might need to convert my SC10.
