A question of chassis?

Post by Synergy »

I have a chassis dilemma, I'm really not happy with my composite craft Andy's car :( , it is not drilled for stealth and I feel as though it's components and body are too new for a six gear trans.

So do I :-

A) drill the chassis and fit a stealth

B) swap the parts over between the cars I have pictured and basically end up with a graphite Andy's car and a Composite Craft six gear CE ish mongrel thing?

I'm leaning towards drilling the chassis but will that ruin it authenticity?

I'm open to any other interesting/meaningful suggestions as long as they don't involve sending the cars to you to dispose of correctly

This photo shows it with a stealth trans held in with only the brace.

Thanks for any advice.

well, if you don't want to alter the c.c. chassis in any way, your only other option would be to find an mip trans, and use that. but even doing that, the wheels/tires and body are still a bit too new. so, i think i'd find a set of tq, or older proline rims for that car, along with some older style tires. then i'd take the body from the andy's car and put it on your graphite team car, since it needs a painted body anyway. you could then use a protech, or protech 2 body body on the andy's car with more of an ol' skool paint job.

just my $.02.

or, you could just send the car to me to be disposed of properly.

I personally like to ride my cars, and I don't really like the 6-gear tranny for that. If you want to ride them, then go ahead and drill the chassis.

OR you could try to make an aluminum adaptor plate with threaded holes in the position of the 6-gear holes, and countersunk holes in the stealth position, plus straight holes for the a-arm mounts.

The plate would have to be around 2 - 3 mm thick, you'd of course loose those 2-3mm in ground clearence, but wouldn't have to alter any original parts.

Hope you got how I meant that above.

Good Luck, Chewie.

Thanks for the ideas gents.

I follow your suggestion Chewie and it would certainly allow me to fit a stealth easily without altering the chassis but I think Scr8ps idea maybe more along the lines of what I am after. The only problem I think I'm going to have is finding the old style wheels and tires (can someone please link me to some photos of what I would be looking for that I could maybe use as a wanted add :?: ) maybe I would have to stick with the CE wheels. I have a couple of spare Protech 1 and 2s so a body would be no issue.

Anyone else want to throw so ideas into the pot :?:

Although on second thoughts I'm just going to send them to Scr8p to be correctly disposed of :D

I would just drill it for the stealth. 90% of people who had that chassis drilled it as soon as the stealth was available. The six gear tranny all but disappeared from the track in about 3 months. I like more of the resto modern look anyway, old car with new tires and electronics, that way if you want to test it on the track at least you have a fair chance of having fun. not doing donuts. Although I know most people on here don't run their cars, which to me is sad

in 1990, that's exactly what i would've done. but, depending on how much of a "purist" you are, you're not gonna start drilling holes in a perfect, original, unmolested chassis 20 years later. but that's just me.

I'm for option B. Or replace the 6 gear with an MIP SP-1.

I have definitely been swayed away from drilling it, Shodog I have an MIP trans sat in my A&L car would it be more appropriate to swap it out for a black 6 gear and put the MIP in the CC chassis or would that spoil my A&L :?: Oh decisions, I fear with such little knowledge I could do such wrong

Why you gotta ruin it for me? You know I never have anything meaningful to say. :P :P :P

It is a serious dilemma actually.. That 6 gear doesn't look right. IMHO a 6 gear doesn't look right in anything but a 601X Gold Pan or an early Graphite...

Option 1 - MIP Tranny would look hot in that car

Option 2 - Drill.. I'd drill it if it was me, but i love that classic hopped up look over being a puritan. 8)

The rest of the car looks great - Stealth Fighter, Graphite Chassis and 2.2 wheels makes it very 1993...

Also.. I think if you fitted teflon shock bodies but kept the gold caps, I might have not read this thread anymore in case I get over-excited :D :D :D
