LiPo charger recommendation for DC power input

Post by Frankentruck »

Does anyone have experience with using a DC power source (like a car battery) and a LiPo battery charger? My little Tenergy TB6B didn't like it's 12v input being hooked to a 12v input source. It looks like I disconnected it before I cooked it and left the magic smoke out, but it's going to be an AC input only charger in the future. It looks like my upcoming parking lot racing will have no power available, so I'm thinking about getting a car battery and a charger that likes being powered from a car battery. So, any charger recommendations?

I'm no expert, but Hyperion might have an option for you. I have an EOS 0606i that I've used for years, and it still works great.

The side button is fiddly to get used to but my icharger x6 has been awesome. Its tiny and does everything you could want for around $100. There are chargers out there for way less money but I value the quality.

Bummer to hear. I have an older model of this and it was ok until about 18v and then it went into auto shut down. I was direct connecting a solar cell to the DC input of the charger

I was using my Novak 14v 10a power converter to test the charger out on DC. I've used the converter with my Tekin motor dyno before and it works well. The Tenergy charger was starting to make that bad electrical smell, so I quickly unhooked it.

I'll take a look at both the EOS 0606i and the X6. Thanks for the suggestions.
