Salute project (was: Optima Belt drive conversion question)

Post by EvolutionRevolution »

Does the belt drive conversion for the original Optima use the same diffs as the Optima Mid?

There is an additional guide pulley and rear gearbox housing that was included in the conversion kit like the link spells out. They are a bit tougher to source.

I have said gearbox and pulley, they look pretty easy to make from stock gearbox and a couple small bearings. I know some have said they aren't needed..... But kyosho went to extra lengths to do it.. So I believe it couldn't hurt

I used an original belt conversion kit for CYANide, and made my own for Barney. If you make your own, one thing that's a bit of work in itself is a Lexan cover to seal in the guide pulley. Without it, the gearbox will be open to dirt & the elements.

Original:

Fabricated version that I made it from 3 pieces of spare Lexan and Weld-On acrylic cement, which I sealed on after gearbox installation with silicone:

So after a bit of thinking, and because I want to make this a little bit different, I think I'm going to build myself a Salute.

What I have:
- Optima rear gear box
- Optima motor plate
- Mid diffs - will need to check whether I have both front and rear diff though
- Optima limited slip layshaft
- Optima hard counter gear
- Various misc. suspension bits
- Gold celebration nerf bars (NIP)
- Cross gold alloy c-hubs and front and rear uprights
- front shock tower
- bumper (cut-down)

What I need to check:
- Whether some of the unidentified aftermarket hop-ups I have are for the Optima
- Whether I have other Optima parts I don't know about yet

What I will need to get:
- Salute body + wing (TBG)
- Belt
- Front gear box
- All other alloy parts - thinking of getting a Pargu alloy parts set + the bumper brace
- Fibre-Lyte CF shock towers + chassis braces (maybe...)
