Question about an Ultima "Belt-Drive" Conversion

I have a friend overseas (Germany) who is inquiring about a belt-drive conversion, that may have possibly included a slipper for the Ultima series? He is trying to build a car up, and althought the going is slow, he has a few questions. Any help is greatly appreciated.

I think there are 3 options:

Lethal Weapon made by A&L. This has the ball diff and the slipper. Good transmission, but very difficult to find.

kyosho Triumph. The triumph transmission bolts into the ultima with little to no modification. It's become a nice option since the A&L is difficult to find. It has a ball diff and a slipper. The kyosho slipper is a little bit different because of the type of spring washer used on the clutch.

Track Master - This is ok, but the center (diff, belt and cog) is exposed because it uses 2 side plates. Aslo, I don't think these came with slipper clutches. You can probably adapt on to it, but I've never done that.

The cool factor tells me to go for the A&L, but more triumphs (and spares) were made. So if something went wrong with the A&L, it would be more difficult to find spares (in theory).

I guess the A&L would be good for a shelfer then.

And daryl lane is a member here (the L in A&L) and stil has some private stock. So if you're ready to pay the price it's not tall that difficult to get.

TPS also made an optional slipper.


Bullet(sp) Racing also made an enclosed belt-drive tranny for the RC10...not sure about one for the Ultima, though.

And don't forget about the HyperDrive system that used a belt in place of the spur and pinion. May have rigged up a slipper with the belt system?
