I think it is time to start my own small motor thread. I love motors since I was a young boy but never could afford all those ponies. Now, nearly 20 years later I am still addicted to brushed motors. Time changed the color of my hair but also my income and the price of brushed motors. The bad thing is that they are not often available in good condition and special looked after motors are very hard to come by. I was lucky enough to obtain some of my so beloved and looked after motors which I want to present in this little thread.
Everything started for me with a Reedy Sonic `M`. Since I`ve driven my worlds car with this motor at races I`m in love with Reedy motors and esp. the Sonic serie.
Here are my green beauties and I hope you also enjoy them. Most motors came dirty to my home in need to be completely cleaned, fitted with new brushes and given a good skim. After all these procedure each motor ist tuned on my Robitronic Pro Master and every single motor came back to top performance. In my personal opinion Reedy motors are the best of the best!

brushed motor..... they have such a place in our hearts, there is something about the maintenance and care you put into them that really ties in the hobby. My favorite motor is the B&R buckshot stock motor, is way my favorite in the stock class. I also really loved my 15x1 revtech, it was the only mod i had that a local racer sold me after he rebuild it.

Anybody else out there who is collecting Reedy Sonic`s?

Popboy905 you`re so correct what you`ve written about brushed motors. It is something special between you and the motor because you`ve to take care about it that it works fine. Today you screw in a brushless motor and can run hours, days, weeks without maintaining it. It is also nice but much more different, more without soul than with all those old brush style babies
I also like much more all those colorful decals on vintage motors. They are missing completely today. Why? This would make motors more interesting again. In earlier days you`ve taken a short look onto the back of a car and you knew which motor was built in. Today, all motors are black or grey. Awful!
By the way, I`ve a NIP B&R buckshot in my collection with some other motors from B&R.

Thanks for this thread. The spreadsheet with the Dyno information is really helpful (I studied some german so the language is not problem ). As mentioned before I have a 'G' and its really my favorite motor. it looks like its one of the fastest!

Which dyno do you use? How do the green Sonics compare to new reedy brushless motors with similar turn ratings?

I've got a couple of Sonics but nothing like that. I loved the large comm. I do have quite a few Reedy KR's but don't consider them "special" like the Sonic II's and older.

back after a long time.
I use a Robitronic Promaster II dyno. A fantastic and very detailed dyno. Sadly mine doesn`t work on the computer. I`ve no idea why so I have to use it without the graphic application.
The green "Sonic" are great motors but I didn`t compare them to a brushless system. I think brushless is more powerful but with our sandy, slippery tracks here in Austria we can`t use that much power. I run my RC10 still with brushed motors, mostly 12x1 or 13x3 turns and they deliver enough power to compete with brushless powered cars. My green "monsters" are only for collecting. I have also KR, TI and PT but only use TI for racing.

I've never really liked the Ti series although somehow ended up with a few of them. The Kr's were powerhouses and one of my favorites. I've always wanted a motor dyno but luckily brushed motors died out by the time I could afford one, a local guy converted his TD45 to dyno brushless.
