My usual pusher, oh oops I mean friend who frequents the local flea markets and craigslist ads brought a nice haul to work the other day.
He is not an RC guy, so I offered as usual to clean up / rebuild (and thoroughly inspect of course) the collection to improve his resale. The car that immediately caught my eye was a woven carbon fiber RC10. Filthy, rusty, otherwise nasty looking to the casual observer, but I was honest with him in that it was probably the most valuable piece there, especially with the woven version of the AE chassis.
He knew as well as I did that this one wasn't likely to leave my shop.
Got to working on it a little tonight, stripped the chassis down and brought it in to clean it up and see what was hiding under all that mess.
I was very pleasantly surprised.
So, as long as we can come to an amicable agreement as far as price, this one will be my next AE project.
High level plans for it (subject to change) are to make it a fully (or almost fully) aftermarket hop-up build.
I plan to go with AIP's (member here) CF shock towers. Would also love a 6-gear CF trans brace and also was thinking of a CF motor plate as well.
Aftermarket arms, front and rear, maybe RPM or other.
Etc, etc, etc.
Anyway, here is the chassis after a good bath. More to come (not right away, this one will likely take some time with the holidays coming up to consume most of my disposable income.... lol)

Wet sand that chassis starting with 1000 then move to 1500 then to 2000 use just a few drops of soap in the water then buff with a automotive grade 1500 or 2000 grit rubbing compound it will look better than it ever did when it was new! I have already done one graphite car and am jn the process of doing another and that work awsome!

Re: RC10 Carbon (Graphite?) Build
Yeah, I once found a TC3 with an aftermarket Demon CF chassis, was in overall good shape except was pretty scuffed up on the bottom. Did exactly what you say here, carefully wet sanded then buffed out, the thing was like a mirror when I was done with it.
This one is in pretty good shape, but there is always room for improvement.
Also good news, heard from AIP and he already has a 6-gear brace and a motor plate in the works.
I think I am going to expand on my usual black and orange theme on this one, dying the nylon black and orange. I think on the CF cars the black nylon looks better than the natural off-white.
