My build has started.

I picked up my RC10 from the LHS on Saturday. I happened to be in on Thursday and saw that they had got them in. I wasn't able to pick it up that day due to the fact that I was only in the city for work. It was like being 12 years old and waiting for Christmas until I got it Saturday morning.

Took some pictures of opening the box.





I couldn't start the build until Monday. I have been working the build around the transmission as I am going to put bearings in it. I am really happy with it, and it has brought back a lot of memories of building my first one.



















What bearings is everyone using? AE ones or third party?

Then all I have to do is decide what motor and esc I'm going to put in it.

You'll want to pull the rear shocks back apart and fix associateds mess up. There should be approx 3 spacers in the shock making up about 5/8". Bitd it called for fuel tubing. Without it you will pop dogbones and it will not be fun

From an RC Car Action article on setting up the Team Car:

2 • Shock travel limiting.
Limit rear-suspension travel by installing spacers over the shock shaft (under the piston). There are three different plastic spacers from which to choose: the shock O-ring spacer (.125 inch thick), the rear dogbone spacer (.062 inch thick) and the shock O-ring washer (.031 inch thick). These three will give you numerous combinations for controlling suspension travel. Associated now packages all of these together (part no. 6466).

Cliff suggests that, in the rear, you start with 1.32 shafts and two .125-inch spacers, one .062-inch spacer and one .031-inch spacer; up front, use one .031-inch spacer. Don't use silicone tubing for shock-travel-limiting spacers; it will compress, and your drive shafts will eject

The information on the front shocks doesn't really apply, but the rear suspension geometry should be more or less the same.

I have a rear shock from my original RC10.



All of the seals for the shock are on the outside and held with a c clip. I forgot about that.



Here's the shaft and spacers.



It looks like a lot more than the two black spacers on the new kit. So one extra black spacer enough?

Lol, you are right. I had disassembled the shock years ago, and hastily put it back together so I didn't lose any parts. After I did all that it appears I lost the thin plastic washer that AE supplied as a seal for the end cap. The other three still have theirs.

I measures and from the top of the piston it is .287



At 5/8 it should be .625?

a 5/8" spacer is added below the piston. so 5/8" plus whatever thickness the piston is, if you are measuring that way.

The stoppers in the kit are not even close then. The black spacers that come with it don't even equal the size of one of the black spacers from AE 6466 replacement kit.

Great build so far thanks for posting. It's nice to see the parts, manual and experience of guys up close before I start the build myself (mine should arrive today!). Very helpful.

Wow yeah those spacers are waaay too thin. Wonder if they were going to put 1.02 shafts in and changed their mind?

I called AE tech support. They are not aware of a problem (or at least the tech I spoke with). I am going to email them the pictures. I will pick up the 6466 kit when I get the bearings for it.

I will report back what they say.
