Re-breaking in old bag motors?

I'm getting the Slash into racing condition for a new track in town, but it's been about 6 months that all my old Traxxas Titan 550 mills have been collecting dust. Anyone have an experienced suggestion on what I should do next?

Just clean up and run?

Water-dip and run?

Or one easy solution of course... just buy new ones? It's not like they cost much...

Just kinda curious as to what you guys think.

Good question. I wonder if a water bath to help clean some things up with the brushes would help. Would it re-seat the brushes?

Then your motor spray along with oiling of what ever needs it of course.

These motors are not to serviceable right? I don't think I have taken one apart before. Well, not to rebuild or clean it.

I say all of what you mentioned and whatever else you can think of at the time, it is not going to hurt it that's for sure.

They're not supposed to be, but hey - if a fragment of a magnet from a computer hard-drive finds it's way on to a key part of the can and increases RPM it's not my fault... RIGHT?

I've only heard of it. A couple of good ol' boys at our track got caught doing it. Apparently you smash a hard drive and take a tiny piece of the magnet. You then stick it on the outside of the can and slide it around until you hear the biggest spike in RPM. Then you just leave it there and no one is the wiser... well almost no one. Not sure if it really works or the science behind it, but who knows?? I can't drive a slow car, much less a faster one.

the hard drive magnets are VERY strong, they are rare earth, not the old junky ferrite magnets that the motors have internally. I would not doubt that the chunk of magnet on the can would get you more RPM.

Great band too. Thanks for the info. The ones I have still rip pretty good luckily. Took a few test passes this morning. First time I'd held a radio in close to 6 months. Felt good.

You are better off having some one re zap the can to re center the magnets to induce more magnetic timing. This works. All the "red dot" (a guy who tunes silver cans for Tamiya racing) silver can motors are done this way.

Motor spray and re oil the bushings...If it dies then buy a new one...You can see if one of the old timers still has a motor dyno and if he does ask if you can put your motor on there to see what kind of shape it is in...

I have a reedy sonic2 that inside and out looks new and turns freely.But put a battery to it and it wont do squat hummm then stops.I took it apart and not even any wear on the comm itself had a plastic ring on top of comm instead of insulater washer so put one on and reassembled it and still doing the same thing.Hummm Stop.ive cleaned the brush faces check the springs and hoods but nothing out of line.Don

Sounds like a wiring issue on the armature itself, open or shorted winding.
