Re: Regional A final wanna-be
Cheers Terry, didn't think it was a dream!
Thanks for the shock info to, oh well, old school shocks it is. I'll build them to Elvo's guide though:

Re: Regional A final wanna-be
innovativerc makes .71 threaded shock bodies that use all of the associated parts. but, they don't have any in stock.

Re: Regional A final wanna-be
The setup I suggested to temple works really good with modern tires on a dirt track. With older rc10 setups, the shocks are really soft (especially the fronts) to compensate for the harder tires. I also use different front springs depending on the shock size as well. With .71 or .89 shock bodies, I use blue buggy front springs. If you use 1.02, 1.18, or 1.32 shock bodies in the front, go with silver truck front springs. I don't recommend using the short .56 shocks, there just isn't much travel. In the rear, I use green or silver springs.
Front: 30wt, #2 piston
Rear: 30wt, #1 piston
If you run on carpet or a hard floor, I'd go up to 35wt or even 40wt in the front.

Old school racing all the way!
Re: Regional A final wanna-be
Well,
I've gone with B4 threaded rear shocks, and team teflon fronts (until I can get some threaded bodies, thanks Scr8p!).
I've gone with this set-up to start with:
Front:
30wt oil
#1 piston
Blue spring
Outer wishbone, middle tower
Rear:
27 1/2wt oil
#1 piston
Silver spring
Outer wishbone, 1 out from inner (FL tower has 4 holes)
I'll admit the front feels a little soft, but I will be running this indoors to start off with, so will give it a try.
We still actually use the same tyres in the UK that the guys were using when these cars were raced, so the set-up shouldn't be too far off
Plan for tomorrow id to try and fit a combination of the stealth and B4 slipper (to get dual pads) with Losi spring (as it has a better range of adjustment). I'd also like to get the body cut out, but it is Christmas eve, so I might have chores!

Re: Regional A final wanna-be
i called innovative yesterday. he said he's hoping to have the threaded .71's back in stock in a month or so.
Re: Regional A final wanna-be
Thanks Scr8p, if your gonna get some let me know, i'll get some too if thats ok?
Well the slipper is sorted, it has a stealth slipper back plate, B4 spur with dual pads, and B4 front plate, with Losi spring and nut etc. It sticks through the spur gear cover, but thats not a problem, I think it looks cool.
I'm gonna have a sort out in the garage, see what bodies I have so I can choose one for this, and then drill the rear tower for Losi wing mounts.

Re: Regional A final wanna-be
Don't use ProtechII, they are discontinued and hard to find. Try the "new" Chinese made Viper, they are far better than originals: trim lines, thicker lexan and protective film. The protech looks good for race if you "sibelnech" it.

Re: Regional A final wanna-be
although the sidewinder is hard to find, personally i like it the best of all AE bodies, looks like a protech II but has a cool front hood thing going on, they pop up on ebay from time to time for a $40 BIN price... its my favorite AE body to be honest
Re: Regional A final wanna-be
Well I've just found another Protech and another Viper body, so I guess it's gonna be one of those two.
I might have to cut the rear of the body totally off as I'm going to use Losi wingmounts on the carbon rear tower. Has anyone done anything like that? Does it look ok?

Re: Regional A final wanna-be
Well I have the Losi wing mounts on the rear tower, and I'm going to go with a Viper body. I'm goint to try and make slots at the rear for the wing mounts to come through. It will mean taking the body pins out of the wing to fit the shell but I think it will be worth it to try and keep the rear of the shell.

I'm going to take some pictures tonight, but still can't make my mind up on the shell!
The Protech seems to have more styling to it, but the Viper is more racey.....

Protech for the shelf / concourse, Viper for racing.
