old Igarashi modified motor - what brand is this?

Post by V12 »

I got this motor with a 1980 car, but being covered with a lot of dust it didn´t look any different than my other Igarashi stock motors.
Now when restoring the car I noticed this is a modified motor. As you can see from the pictures this motor has ball bearings, capacitator, flat spot for pinion at the armature and quite unusual, small screws for fixing the endbell to the can. Usually you just will find tape for this at most other motors of this type.
I would like knowing what brand it is, but there are no signs or labels visible.

What you can see at the pictures, the motor sticker is very large and silver/chrom and covers about 1/3 of the can circumference but any lettering has disappeared or was removed. I think Bolink Checkpoint motors had similar size stickers but not the silver dot at the endbell, this was found usually more with Revtech motors. The capacitator at the endbell could be found with most modifieds but the screws for fixing the endbell I just have seen once at a Delta factory motor but not with production motors. So what brand could it be?

Looks like an early Reedy Modified. The screws were often added by the owner. The flat spot on the armature had to be cut by the owner with a file or Dremel tool back then.

Thanks for the informations. After seeing a picture of other Reedy Igarashi modified motor now, yes it looks the same. Even details as the capacitor and the sort of sticker are exactly the same. Just should have such a sticker for bringing this motor back to full beauty.

Just one detail what makes me wonder, other Reedy Igarashi modified motors have cooling holes at the can between the magnets, this one not. Do you think early Reedy motors didn´t have such cooling holes and this was introduced later?

Correct, some of them didnt have holes.

Post a pic of the armature if you can.
