vintage custom works rc-10 sprint conversion

yes i said rc-10 conversion not enforcer-10. i found the blue car on ebay dirt cheap like 2 years ago and thought it was custom, i never saw an enforcer with a complete rc-10 nose on it. when i got it i saw nice straight chassis edges and clean counter sunk screw holes and thought it had to be original custom works. the chassis is fiberglass with normal scratches and wear. then last year i found the other one as a brand new complete roller on dirtoval.com so naturally i could not pass it up. the roller has a graphite chassis (looks like standard custom works old pencil graphite) stealth tranny, titanium rods, polished up aluminum, b3 or b4 wheels, and 3 shock towers,1 front and 2 rear. the front tower was on the roller originally but the owner opted not to cut the front cage, so the cage was crushed inward. i took an old fiberglass tower and cut it around the bars so a body would fit and put the graphite one on the blue car along with the extra rear tower. i couldnt bring myself to cut the front cage, i wanted it to look more realistic. the blue car looks almost like a big boys toy with the tower bolted to the cage but thats how all the holes lined up except for the aluminum bumper that looks to be added on.
i thought sombody on here could help identify them because everybody i have shown it to has never seen one either. here are the pics. sorry for the poor quality i borrowed a the cheap camera from work and it sucks.

they are both the same except the graphite one has the regular cage on it, not the enforcer 10 cage. I've owned them both (E10 and E) and the only real difference is the fiberglass vs graphite.

Beautiful car(s), but as I suspected, it's definitely not a Custom Works product. I just talked to Rob Cutman about it to make sure, and he's never seen nor heard of a car like that.

When I saw it, I thought, "where and when was that from?" The first Enforcer was based on a 2wd Dominator layout, with an Ascot/RCRC cage on it and 2wd Yokomo adapters to use Dom wheels. Neat car. The first iteration of the Enforcer was the more common DD chassis that was sold for more than a decade. The first gearbox car was the previously referred to "Enforcer-10" which was a CW 2wd front end with an RC10 rear on a CW chassis. A very successful car, in it's own right.

The timeline of these cars would say that there would never have been a kit needed for RC10 front end pieces, because from the time the Intimidator was born to now, they have ALWAYS used their own front ends on their cars. Line up the timeline of the RC10 (and that particular front end) with the timeline of the Intimidator/Enforcer (early 90s), and there was never an overlap with the parts that are on those cars.

Which puzzles me a lot.

The mesh of the parts on that car don't jive in my head, especially with the B4 wheels and black shock caps.




My guess is that the car was made by some offshoot, small, off-the-radar company like RD Enterprises or someone like that, and made in very small numbers. Regardless of the fact that it's not a CW car, it's SUPER cool, and beyond ultra rare. I love it, and would love to know where it came from.

wow doug i figured that you would be the one to shed some light on these cars. i did not expect that you would have talked to rob about them, thanks. i was going to post the pics on dirtoval in the custom works section to see what he had to say about them.
like i said i too thought they were custom made since the 1st one had a white core fiberglass chassis and i never recall seing a fiberglass custom works car. they both have old cheetah caster wedges under the bulkheads and the graphite used on the 2nd car is identical to the graphite on the partial Intimidator chassis i have. also the 3 graphite shock towers use the same graphite only thinner and they are shorter than standard buggy towers. the rear towers have been designed to clear the cage and use .71 shocks and if you notice the extra battery box holes for 7,6,and 6 cell hump pack, these also lead me to believe it was a c.w. car.
the fiberglass car came from Issaquah,Wa and the graphite car came from Tehachapi,Ca. if that helps at all. the guy that sold me the graphite car said he never ran the car and he upgraded it with the rpm arms and newer parts in hopes of running at his local track but never did.
i was thinking of making the fiberglass chassis a mid motor car and slotting the chassis for the batteries like the new GBX lightweight chassis.

those are some sweet sweet cars wyldbill. i love all the vintage cars, but i really love the vintage oval gearbox cars. back in the late '80's there was so many different aftermarket stuff for ovalizing a rc10! it's hard to remember all the different kits and conversion parts. i know for a fact that i didn't ever see half the products offered through magazine ads, and then there was the small regional companies that only sold through word of mouth-no ads at all, just bussiness cards. but you definately got some very well made vintage cars. the chassis's look great. sorry i wouldn't have a clue about brandname for these, but i'm very interested in the answer when you find out manufacturer of those.
