RC10 Sprint Car Conversion

Post by Beatnik »

First post here, Hi.

I have this conversion I did many years ago using RC10 buggy parts I got at a RC swap meet. Been sitting on top of my toolbox and never run. Graphite chassis (yes I did drill it for the cage), graphite transmission brace, RPM tranny, blue anodized motor plate. I think the body was Protoform, saw it on another post here (#1901 4 piece sprint car body) ?

I can't remember who made the roll cage, anyone have an idea ? The body tail piece doesan't match the shape of the cage underneath.

Looks like a Protoform nose on it. I have a few of those bodies. If you want confirmation, get me some close up of the details around the hood/scoop.

I have the exact cage on a Trinity Reflex sprint car conversion. I don't think that Trinity made it but it everything fits exactly the way it should around the gearbox and transmission.

I agree, Kyosho Sideways roll cage. I've got a similar car hanging on the wall that I plan on a restoration soon. Mine is a combo of a number of different parts with a narrowed graphite chassis. I always ran the old 6 gear tranny as it had a better gear ratio for oval.

I wish I had seen that Kyosho body when I built this one, would have been a much better fit.

Super old thread, but the reason I expect the Kyosho cage fit the Reflex so well was probably Jim Dieter (Reflex designer) had driven for Kyosho at one point. I'm sure he was aware of the Sideways car, beyond the fact that around this time most RC10 sprint cars were RC10 Graphites with the chassis narrowed and a Kyosho cage. This was a little after I stopped racing, but I assume everybody ditched the heavy Ascot/Big Boys style cage for the plastic Sideways cage.
