Frankenstein Body

Post by rangerg »

I always get a kick out of these frankenstein cars or bodies. Here's a nice Kyosho one:

http://cgi.ebay.com/Vintage-Kyosho-Optima-4WD-Buggy-Rare-Car-LOOK-AE-RC10-/290566575766?pt=Radio_Control_Vehicles&hash=item43a71e1696#ht_500wt_922

I'm trying to figure out what it is? It's an original Ultima body stuck onto another body and then put on an Optima, right? I like the wing so far behind the car.

The best one I ever saw on Ebay was a 1/2 Ultima and 1/2 RC-10 that was literally two cars sawed in half (front Ultima and back RC-10). I was expecting another auction with the reverse car :-).

LOL That body is a classic.

It was a prototype. Turbo Ultima Special III.

Or not.

What I recognize is an Optima/Turbo Optima chassis with Ultima cage grafted onto a Lord-knows-what body.
Completed projects: CYANide Onroad Optima | Zebra Gold Optima | Barney Optima | OptiMutt RWD Mid
Gallery - Coel's Stalls: Marui Galaxy & Shogun Resto-Mods | FrankenBuff AYK Buffalo | 1987 Buick GNX RC12L3

That's exactly what I see, and it is poorly grafted in that you see the line clearly.

I searched and couldn't find a good picture of the butterfly body, I'd like to see one? Thanks.

The proline butterfly is actually a very nice body when painted correctly. That body with the ultima roll cage should have bolted on nicely to the optima. It looks like he mounted about an inch too far back. The end of the roll cage should have lined up with the mounting hole in the back of the motor plate.

Here's a picture:

Wow, what a difference. That's a cool body and it works with the stock rollcage. It just looks so bad in the auction. How would the Pro-line body be marketed if you had to also buy a Kyosho rollcage? or did the butterfly body look ok by itself?

I see from the TamiyaClub that is was designed to be used as an alternate body with the stock rollcage, that's a unique one, thanks for the picture link.
