General Lee build
I finally got going on my General Lee build. The idea behind this build was to have a car that could be driven on the dirt.(Just like Bo and Luke). The only 1969 Charger Body that I could find was made by HPI. Its a little long and skinny for the RC10 chassis, so I had to get creative. I'm using an old 10T that I had lying around. The extra wheelbase length was needed to fit the HPI body. I'm using DS front and rear arms. I'm going to custom make some shock towers. So far, finding the right wheels was my biggest challenge. I ended up using some HPI stock car rims that I will eventually paint grey spokes on to replicate the old Vector wheels on the General.
To get the HPI wheels to fit I used the rear hex adapters from my brothers old Traxxas Stampede. I had to ream them out a bit. The fronts were a little bit more involved. Basically I took the same hex adapters and shaved them down about a 1/16/ Then I used appoxy to set them into the wheels. Then I drilled out each side of the wheel so that it would accept a 3/16 x 3/8 bearing.
I've still got to get the front end mocked up and get the body mounted. I'll post more pics when I make more progress.- rc10johnny

Re: General Lee build
I actually started out with this set up. I was using parts from the Stampede and I didn't like the fit. I'm not sure if I was using the right parts, but I had to do a lot of grinding to the front castor blocks to get them to fit the Associated arms.

Did you see the Bolink Body?: http://bolink.com/carbodies.html You gotta use Internet Explorer to navigate their page or some links might not work.Mikeyboy wrote:The only 1969 Charger Body that I could find was made by HPI

Re: General Lee build
I tried ordering one from them about 8 months ago. I received a confirmation email from them and then never received anything. I sent 3 emails with no response. They never charged my credit card though. I'm not sure if they're really still in business. That body would have been a lot easier to use.

Re: General Lee build
I think they had little hic-up a few months back but they should be up to speed by now, I got an Replay to one of my e-mails last month. I'd drop them an E-mail again and see if someone is homeMikeyboy wrote:I tried ordering one from them about 8 months ago. I received a confirmation email from them and then never received anything. Re: General Lee build
I had the same idea for my ds that is laying around waiting for me to get to. I like the idea for the front wheels. I'm not a big fan of the traxxas thing. But you gotta do what you gotta do. Good luck with the build looks good so far.

Re: General Lee build
the traxxas is the cheapest, but you could use a kyosho or losi variation as well. the later model 2wd buggies use a hex up front with a 'live' axle in the hub.

Re: General Lee build
Well I got my front arms in the mail today and found out that they do not mount up to the 10T front bulkhead. I thought that the DS used the same one. Back to the drawing board.

Re: General Lee build
Does anyone know if the Dual Sport front arm mounts will bolt up to a 10T nose piece? Are the DS arm front arm mounts available anywhere?

Re: General Lee build
what is the width of the dodge body? 190mm, 200mm?
if so, you can use a DS noseplate, although i think the wheelbase will be shorter. still, if you made a noseplate, you can make the length anything you want. the DS noseplate only has like an 8 or 10 degree kick on it, wouldn't be too hard to copy.
You can get the DS noseplate and front bulkeads on ebay. Check out the DS manual for good assembly pictures.

Re: General Lee build
The Charger body is 190mm. I've seen people on ebay advertising DS bulkheads but they look just like the 10T ones.
I'm probably going to end up making a front nose piece or modifiying an old one.
