Servo problem

Post by Seabass »

Hey guys Iwas looking at servos for my buggy and wanted a pretty quick servo. When I started looking at prices I realized servos were not very cheap. While at A Main, I found some Power HD servos that were really fast at a reasonable price ($33). I ended up buying a Digital servo and got it in today. When I power the car up the servo buzzes :? :? . Have any of you ever experienced this before? The servo works fine, just buzzes at idle. I checked to make sure the radio was not the problem and I am good to go. I am attempting to contact the manufactuer since A Main will not accept returns for defective mechandise. The defective product needs to be handled with the manufacturer.

the digitals I have definately have a bit of buzz to them compared to analog servos. Make sure there is no binding in the linkage, and if the servo works fine otherwise I would probably not worry about the buzzing.

There is no binding because the servo is not installed in the car yet

I figure I will run it. I knew I wasn't going to get perfect for the price, but the noise the servo makes was just alarming. I will probably run it until the fails :D

yeah, they are like the high frequency ESC's that came out before the brushless stuff took off. Really, that is all they did, the sample rate is much higher, leading to a much higher accuracy, the 'digital' is the feedback loop and control circuit. so they squeal and buzz when there is a slight load on them, like you would hear from a high frequency ESC when you apply slight throttle.

if it stays centered at high load full throttle blasts, and re-centers OK after sweeping, them there is no problem.

Ok I just installed the servo and checked everything. We are good to go. Thanks for the help, I figured I was just being paranoid.

If your radio has subtrim adjust it a click or two. I'm not familiar with that brand of servo, but my Futaba digital is silent at neutral and I read an article in the July RCCA about radio adjustments and it explained to be sure that end point are adjusted properly so that the servo is silent at full left and full right. The way I read it, if there is a buzz, there is a load on the servo but I'm not sure how that could be at neutral.

Did you try testing the servo on another receiver to eliminate the receiver as a possible cause?
