Who wants to repro a bnib TRX1 gear cover?

Post by Lonestar »

Hi guys,

got my hands on a bnib lexan gear cover for the TRX1... I know there's quite a few of us who've hunted for one for a while now and the reason I was lucky enough to get one was thanks to a kind fellow rc10talk board member... time to spread the love.

Who is good enough to repro this and want to make it available to forum folks for a reasonable price?

They are molded plastic and not lexan. Repro injection molded plastic is not cost-reasonable...... unless you can find 10,000 or more buyers.
I am not here cause I am playing photographer and on my mountain bike.

sorry if that wasn't clear - the one I have in my traxxas pile-o-boxes isn't a repro... it's the real thing with a traxxas header in a sealed bag. And it darn well feels like lexan ;) I was suggesting to make other lexan repros out of this lexan original. The molded plastic ones are in a different league obviously!

show us a picture please. I wouldn't mind replacing the plastic ones on my rad 2 and TCP (assuming the TRX1 fits those cars too)

eh, you have to be careful. traxxas is pretty good with keeping things similar, with the exception of the motor plate area. it seems all the models used slightly different hole locations

HOWEVER....what would be cool, is that a pulled lexan cover in the shape of the trx1 one with enough excess might be able to cover a bunch of different ones, drill your own to suit, more or less.

i've been thinking that a generic cover that had a flat base would really work for just about any trans these days.....

I'm aware of the different hole locations, just didn't check the full shape yet. I'm sure Jay is not going to pre-drill them for us ;)

yeah, I'm obviously not talking about the actual holes......

when these covers are molded, they usually have a molded lip on them, that sort of matches the motor plate. what I'm saying is if that 'lip' wasn't molded, but the cover was molded with a simple flat flange, you could cut your own shape and holes.

for instance, the rc10 gear cover has that extra edge that bends over to match the bend on the top of the motor plate where it bends 90 degrees. without that bend on there and a flat surface that extended some distance, it would work for the trx1, blue eagle, rc10's thru b4, etc, etc....anything with a common spur/pinion interface.

does that make sense, i'm not sure if I'm describing it properly?

I got what you meant the first time ;)
Youd'need to add some sealing to replace the lip : to keep the shelfdust out for most cars on the forum :)
