Masami / Ko Propo Ad

Post by scr8p »

Al hooked me up with a screen shot of this ad from one of the gene husting videos. but the clarity isn't the best. does anyone have an issue of rcca with this ad (1989-91 range), and would be willing to scan it for me? the rc10 on the left is the one i'm replicating, and i'm hoping to be able to tell what tires are on the car. thanks in advance.

what makes ye think that ad is 1989-91?

that is the 1st model EX1 which appeared ~1981 with a Porsche steering wheel;
later revised to the chrome or white roadwheel when the 2CH EX-II came out
some yrs later probably circa 1983-84.

The first issue of RCCA was 1986 i think?

By 1986ish KO was going towards the EX-5/7/9 with the boomerang wristguard case.

By 1989 they were showing the EX-10 computerised and Futaba had the PCM1024 Magnum.

mainly because that image was pulled from a 1990 gene hustings video, and he's talking about this ad being in a mag from 1990.

also, i had an rcca magazine membership that started in 1990, and i kinda remember seeing this ad in some of the early ones. not to mention, the cars pictured aren't older than '88.

It is kind of a confusing ad. That's Masami's 1/12th car from the 1988 Worlds in Holland. But the transmitter is vintage early 80's. The first EX-1 I saw was at the 1982 Worlds.

there is referrence in the page to ko inventing the wheel radio so thats why they show a very early one.

don't think so; reading thru the wording of the ad it sounds very much like
they're spruiking that very model of EX1 with the 301BHs etc etc

more curious... i doubt Masami-san would have USED the EX1 to run those cars? :?

ok i took a flick thru the 36 issues 1989-1991 in the RCCA archive... no luck for above ad
suspect may be on a page they didn't bother scanning

the EX1 did get mentioned in Feb 1990 "New for 1990" article
(... wow my EX1s would have been 9yrs old by then)

in August 1991 issue the EX5 & EX7 were shown

ok that narrowed it down enough to go attic digging

its Global Hobby's ad found in Dec 1989 & Jan 1990 issues

sure looks like they were still selling the EX1 alongside the II, 5 & 7 at that time

I thought Masami used a 2 stick. I might just remember a story about him driving with his feet(true story), but I thought he used one all the time. Not, that this helps explain the ad. :?

well, i'm pretty sure i'm correct with my tire choices. but his rear tires, it looks as if the spikes are cut off. or just worn off. mine are tq-20's, his are probably yokomo tr-9's. but, they're close enough for me.

np :)

yeah your hoops look the part

now the real intrigue begins...

- what's with his shock preloads, they're serioualy staggered all 4 corners?
is that how he runs rings around the competition? :D

- the flames on the bonnet flow the 'wrong' way.
Or is that a white octopus.
