MIP Mono Shock Conversion Anybody got any pictures?

Wow, I did not know MIP had made them, but why would any one want to run one? What was the benefit of running this? Lower CG's and lighter, are the only things I can come up with. Even Tamiya went away from that design!

Probably never going to run so it just looks cool, enough reason in my book. I've got a couple of those monoshock kits and one is going on a build I'll be starting soon.

I tried to run one on mine when we were racing in the parking lot oval. they allowed way to much body roll. and didn't work very good so it was a short lived experiment. they wouldnt self center.

a sway bar may help with keeping it centered a bit better or at least i think it might.

Looks like they would be simply to make from some fibre-glass, plasticard or carbon sheet. Wonder how a buggy would run with a mono shock fitted in addition to the standard shocks? Thunder Tiger ran this type of 3-shock set-up on their legendary EK4, (I have X2 BNIB: woop woop!).

Would it act to support the sway bar effect?

I sold off my 2 sets a few months ago and that's what each one got, I just saw a set go for $90 a week ago.

So I got mono fever here so here is my observation on this discussion......

I am concerned about body roll and it is a very valid point. I think what needs to happen is that you need a very long shock that will enable full travel of the arm to it's locked out position. If not, the arms will teeter totter allowing body roll. In my case I ran an Associated long rear shock which still was not long enough to prevent this issue. The teeter totter action was allowing about a good 1/4" of body roll as I twisted the chassis by hand.

So....I will make sure my mono shock fully locks out the arms at all times. Also ordered a sway bar kit for $8 on ebay (for a rc10 T4).

Because the front ends on the RC10's are especially light on the graphite chassis cars, I believe the lower CG is well worth the benefit!

As aftermarket parts go, these actually showed up not to long after the RC10 was released, even sometime in 1985. One of the first things I remember from MIP for the RC10. Note that at this same time, the Yokomo YZ834b's were just driving circles around everthing, and they had this setup. People who didn't realize that it was the 4wd, (not the silly monoshock front suspension) that made the 834bs fast bought it for their 10s. Eustace probably said sure, I'll make 'em if you'll buy 'em, but I seriously doubt he had one on the car he drove. I wouldn't know enough to say whether they were good in any particular conditions
