Purple Losi Motor plate? anybody know anything? edit w/pic

Post by aconsola »

Hi all,
I just came across some vintage parts, and among them is a losi motor plate for the jrx-2 series. it is anodized purple.
Does anyone know anything about this? I've never seen one before. did they make any other parts in special colors?
I can post pics tonight or tomorrow. I have a ton of parts to go through.
Thanks,
-Anthony

It may be just a function of using a different anodizing supplier. I have a couple that are different shades of silver. I don't know the particular Losi model that came with them, but the shocks came purple (at least a shade of purple) instead of the silver/grey.

This is classic 80's bright purple, new in original losi package.
I'll post it up tonight.

Wow, that sucker is PURPLE.

I have never seen anything close to this.

Did you open the package? I see what appears to other staple holes. Perhaps this is a one-off that a consumer, rather than the factory, created.

It does look to have been restapled at some point.

Having said that, I have NEVER seen ANYTHING from Losi or any other US company in purple ano other than Trinity.

never heard of this but do check the treads here: there is one with all the details on different cutouts, and engravings. it may help to have the number of the original and see if the cutout for the link existed on that nr.
You may have been fooled , but hey, if being fooled brings you such a unique part, I would be happy to get fooled too.

you guys are correct on the staple, I hadn't noticed it.
Ibought 2 of them, both exactly the same.
There is a bar-code sticker on the back that has the part# as A-3002AP
This sticker is a distributor thing, the shop owner does not put them on. Maybe it was a promotional item for this particular distributor?
Thanks,
-Anthony

You might want to contact someone like Todd Hodge over at Losi. I'm sure Todd hasn't been there long enough to know, but he can find out for you... by probably asking Junior. ;) I'd love to know, myself, because I think it's a non-Losi "improvement."

I've emailed a couple addresses from the losi website, but no response in over 3 weeks. I'm guessing nobody knows anything about it, or they were too busy dealing with Gil Losi JR leaving the company.
If I find anything else out about it I'll post up.

The losi's are gone. They sold out to horizon. I remember hearing that Gil Sr. bought half of boyd coddington's business.

btw, associated is now owned by thunder tiger.

anthony, i don't know what info you happened to find out about that motor plate, but it must have been a distributor thing. i know where you got that, and i picked up a set of associated aluminum shock caps from them and they're anodized the same color purple. each package was restapled.

AE is owned by Thunder Tiger?! That's (bad) news to me! :x
I hope they don't go all ready to run, micro scale on us like Losi did...That would be a crying shame.

BTW-Kinky purple motor plate,Anthony!
