Ten4: the 4WD RC10 project

I know a few of us are planning custom builds with composite chassis and different wheelbase options than what Brian and Jeff originally designed the kit for. After ordering the wrong belt, I found this online calculator that should help guys out in determining a belt length.

The belts for the Ten4 are HTD 3mm, 15mm large and small pulley and 6mm belt width. All you'll need to measure is the center distance between both pulleys and enter it on the site. For my AE Graphite chassis the distance was 261mm which gives me a 570-3M-06 belt.

I have put most of the "kit" together, and man you're right.... There are some tight spaces up front with the steering, suspension, gearbox, driveshafts and shock tower. But it all fits in amazing!

Haha that's why we went lwb originally, now with the standard wheelbase it's even tighter....but fits!

Amazon was out of the belt I needed. I ordered from MRO Supply and belt was here in 3 days. Belt fit exact as the website said.

Last night I ran a couple packs through the car and finally started doing a little tuning on it. The main problem with the car has been on-power steering, it was pushing pretty bad. I had BB gray front springs (3.45 lb) and white BB rears (2.10 lb). First thing I tried was putting the front shocks on the inner tower hole. That moved the car in the right direction, but still not enough. I threw in a set of black (3.00 lb) front springs and it made a world of difference, MUCH better on-power steering. The car still jumps great with the softer front springs too. There is still work to be done on sorting the Ten4 suspension tuning out, but as a first step the softer front springs was a major help.

I put my transponder in it and I was running about 1 second slower than my b44.3. Overall I was pretty happy with that since, 1) I have a *lot* more "seat time" with the 44, I'm still getting the "feel" of the Ten4 down, 2) the 44 is really dialed in and has a hotter motor, 3) the Ten4 has crappy old tires on it, 4) there's still room for improving the Ten4's setup before it's really dialed in. So given all the above (excuses ), I think the Ten4 has the potential to be really fast and easily hang with modern 4WDs. That having been said, I was beating up on a bunch of modern 2WD cars with it last night

Awesome! Glad to see some tuning going on cause I'm lost with springs and oils for the most part. I can make the geometry do what you want but I am not the guy to tell anyone what it should look like! Hahaha

Really cool that it's as fast as it is. Awesome to see you beating up on some 2wd too! If Joey and Ryan get some going you will have that much more input on tuning too.

Any belt skip on decel? I was running mine a tad loose and on pavement and heard a click every once in a while

Think we need to get a one way front pulley going? With the hardened Robinson idler shaft it should support a sprag if we can find one for 3/16

There's not really a complete kit per se, but everything is pretty easy to obtain.

wow ....... Lovely !!!!!

this is SWB or LWB ?

It's LWB. the fender arches look like they would be a better match to SWB, but I could trim them a little more to stretch the openings and it would look fine. I had to do the same thing to the 911 RS body on my nTC3 e/rally conversion and it looks good.
On the other hand I may try the car in SWB first to see how I like it's handling before I decide.
