My Yokomo YZ 834 restoration

The shop owner I worked for as a kid had one of these so when I got into collecting I knew I had to have one. I ended up buying this wreck off of ebay

It looks worse than it actually was. It was set up for carpet racing so the underside of the chassis was in good condition. The buggy sat in a box while I collected parts for it. Then one day at a hobby shop I came across a nice stash of parts. So began the restoration. I completely stripped it down and cleaned everything. I started reassembling and it didn't dawn on me to take some pics until i was about half built.

I used some of the old and many new OEM parts and hop ups from Delta, Hot trick and team losi.

While surfing ebay one day I was able to swoop up some Team Losi aluminum rims. When I got them they were dull so I made a chuck for my drill and spin polished them

I had the chassis all completed but didn't have a body. I found a nice new Dahms body but wanted a real RPS body. I found a New RPS body with custom paint by Andy's on ebay. The bidding was fierce so I threw in a hail mary bid in the last 10 seconds and won it for $150

It came out looking sweet

I meant to ask you about those front aluminum hub carriers. You mentioned that they were Custom Works, but I never saw CW make anything like that in aluminum. They only sold their molded plastic/nylon ones that I know of, as did Superior.

Could they maybe have been Delta parts? Beautful and super rare, nonetheless.


Freakin' SICK car regardless. Easily one of my all-time favs, hands down. I watched the bidding go down on that body, as I wanted the lot of RPS yellow wheels and tires that the seller had listed. It ALL went for crazy money, and unfortunately, I didn't get anything I wanted.


I need to find my ORIGINAL RC magazine and get a scan of the RPS ad that made me fall in love with that car.

Apex, I was just going on what the seller had said they were. You may be right about them being delta as my buggy has quite a few other delta parts. If your intrested in a set of the yellow wheels, I do have a NIB set as well as the correct proline tires for them. I was going to use them but found the aluminum set of wheels for it.

Jim, Do you think you could make me a template of the chassis? I am interested in finding or making that chassis, specifically with the battery saddle pack layout. I would make it worth your while. Let me know. Thank you sir!

I could make a template but it would require me to dissasemble everything off the chassis. Let me think about it becuase I have Nice piece of Carbon fiber I could cut a new chassis from.

Jim, one thing that I should mention that I could help you with... it does not appear in your photo that you have the Losi saddle pack battery strap. If you don't I can send you a template of that to make it complete and correct. Then all you would need is body mounting posts.

If you send one template out to me, I can in turn send it out to Ed when I make a copy. Keeps you from doing more work.

hey jim, when you have a chance, could you measure the length of the front shock ... center of eyelet to eyelet? and also just the shock body from the center of the eyelet to the bottom. thanks.
