My Pro-X project
Re: My Pro-X project
Very nice looking so far, I have just aquired a Nitro ST which looks similar build to this (i'm no expert) and I am trying to restore it.
You wouldnt have a spare steering arm set by any chance??

Nope, I'm sorry Chris. I have just the car itself and one extra tranny case. You might ask Jay-Dub, I know he had a few extra parts kicking around.

Re: My Pro-X project
Little update: I dyed the arms with a teal blue color. They came out a little greener than I wanted but they look way better and I think I can work with it color scheme wise. Here are a couple of pics and just for the hell of it a pose with my beautiful new Losi XX (thanks Rick!) and one with my 16 dollar Ultima.

Re: My Pro-X project
I'm thinking blue anodised shocks with white springs next... and white body with blue and black trims and striping
oh, and LRP decals

Re: My Pro-X project
I like the way you think! I was already considering the white body with blue and green, maybe some black striping to pull it together. Can you give me an example of the LRP decals?

Re: My Pro-X project
You need some shocks, brother....
Are you holding out for the aluminums, or will palstic fill the bill. I have a Pro-x as well and I looked long and hard for the proper team shocks, and finally found them. I have the original plastic bodied shocks left, new, built but never run. Let me know if you are interested.
I have an RC10 coming in that has the Pro shocks installed. I need to verify the front shock length before I get you too excited. I just bought a set of associated shocks to replace these, so they will be available....

Re: My Pro-X project
Actually, I do have the original plastic bodied shocks, I just haven't installed them yet. I'll look them over to see if they are acceptable, otherwise I might take you up on your offer. I was also contemplating the suggestion by Mr. Ed of getting some blue anodized shocks. I think that would really set the car off. There are always a million choices to make during a "restore" aren't there? I have to let my smoking wallet cool down during the month of February as a concession to my wife for her letting me buy both of Rick's excellent Losi cars. Maybe if I bury it in the snow in the back yard it'll go faster.
I want to buy a body and notice that a readily available Losi XX body fits it like a glove. Is this ok or just plain wrong? I believe that I'm also going to grab a stainless screw kit because a lot of the originals are rusty and I'm just not patient enough to clean and blue every one - not to mention some of them are oddball screws from who knows where.

Re: My Pro-X project updated
Ok, it's been a long time since I updated this thread, and almost as long since I've worked on this project. Since dying the arms I've found a set of blue anodized shocks from a T3 that were nearly identical in length. I had to modify the lower ends slightly to fit into the recesses in the arms. I also replaced the motor plate with a NIP one I got off ebay for cheap thanks to a member's sharp eyes. I ordered a Losi XX body to install since I noticed one I had on another car fit the shape pretty well and there's not a great chance of finding a nice Pro-X body for a price I want to pay. I had to chop the back of it off in typical Kyosho style to work with the stock - and might I add, cool - adjustable wing mounts. The Losi wing wouldn't work so I dug through and found an Associated B4 wing that complements the body nicely. I installed the wheel covers I also got from the same member that alerted me to the motor plate auction. (I think I remember it being the same guy
) Anyway, the body is hacked into a rough approximation of what it will look like. Everything is dirty with sanding dust and fingerprints and I'm still working on a paint scheme, but I can finally see the light at the end of the tunnel! Enjoy the pictures:
P.S. The other car I have in the shots for comparison is the Losi XX that bearrickster built from 99% new parts and recently sold to me. I love this car!

Re: My Pro-X project - The Beast has Color!
Well, I got busy and put some paint on the car. Not the most professional job by far, but I'm reasonably happy with the results. Still need to paint the wheel disks but that can wait for another day. Overall I'm ecstatic about how well this car came together. What do you think?
And just to recap, a picture of what I started with:

Re: My Pro-X project
I agree it really looks awesome.
Great job.
Are you going to defend kyosho's colours with this in local races or at the vintage nationals?
