My 6016 Restoration has begun

Seeing as how everybody is posting up some great builds, I knew I needed to get off my rump and get going on a few project. The first one I wanted to do is to rebuild the 6016 I bought off of eBay.



Overall it's in great shape but I want it to be perfect . Most of the parts look unused but there are just a few parts that are less than perfect. I have quite a few new stock parts to put on. The real key to the puzzle is this set of Tecnacraft wheels. I traded with Melvins Army a a set of larger tecnacrafts for these.



Tonight I was able to polish them up using my neighbors lathe and a bit of Mothers mag wheel polish. As you can see they turned out looking like jewelry.

Dude, Shodog, those technacrafts are "bling to the max" !!! Nice top choice 6016 bearing car too The only thing I think you might want to do is check the wing. It looks like a 6" wing in the pic where as the kit wings were the smaller 4.5" ones.

I do have one of the smaller wings I planned on using. when I saw the wing, I thought, hmm its the same shape but I don't remember them being that big.

It's going to be stock with the exception of the tecnacrafts. How could anyone resist not slapping on a set of sweet aluminum wheels? Besides I got three composite craft based RC10's in the pipeline.

Speaking of which, I have to refurbish some of mine and also ream out the rear wheels axle hole to a slightly larger diameter.

You said you had managed to spin yours up on the lathe for polishing and I was wondering how you mounted them?

I think for me, this is my biggest problem to achieve the wheel drilling. The rim of the wheels have very thin ribs to seat the tires and I wouldn't want to crush them by clamping the chuck there. So maybe I should make a custom axle or something...but then I couldn't drill the axle hole.....

Can anyone give me any pointers for this? As although the car is going to be a shelf queen I would sleep better knowing I have reamed the holes out concentrically rather than off centre. I have access to a fully complimented machine shop so you can suggest anything within reason...

P.S. The wheels are the standard T&A/Duratrax style alloys on my JRX2

Geez shodog, I didn't think anything could look nicer than NOS, but I guess you proved me wrong. Those wheels look incredible. Can't wait to see what kind of paint job you give this car.

As you may know pictures don't really show all the minor flaws. Some of the screws are less than perfect. I plan to replace the suspension arms and the rear shock tower is a bit discolored and dirty

I finished off the chassis tonight. I switched out the chassis and nose plate for a slightly better loking one. I also replaced all the screws, the front arms, servo saver, the rear bulkhead, rear arm mounts, rear arms, and hub carriers. I also replaced the dog bones and axles. Here it is

I don't recall if it ever came in the kit but it utilizes the same hardware that the front sway bar does.

your right, that spring cup is dirty, I'll get my team right on it. the threaded rod is the stock 4/40 stuff so it should be correct.

Darn, I had that stuff on one of my cars, I think I threw it out thinking it was some kind of 1/2 way repair.
