Homage to the vintage - JRX-T Grappler

Post by Doc J33P »

Since I am a Losi whore I decided that I needed a new body for the crawler. I drew out a ton of ideas with fancy curves and some flame things. It sat for a couple of weeks and then it hit me. I have been racing?running Losi's since 89'. In that time I have owned many of their products. My favorite RC of all time was the Team Losi JRX-T. The first stadium truck ever to re-invent the category and also create it at the same time. I have always loved the paint on the box art so I thought what the hey. I am more satisfied with this paint job than any one i have ever done. It actually took about 6 hours?!

Reference - we all know what it looks like, lol:

And here is what I came up with. I planned ahead to think about how much I would cut off. That frustrates me most with bodies as you paint them all purdy and then hack them up:

Pics stink, but so does the weather outside.

Thanks for looking.

It was pretty easy when I drew it yesterday. BUt it really took me a long time. I am anal about everything I do so I had to make sure that it was perfect. I mixed about 20 different colors to try and get it right. The only one that was tricky was the yellow. This is my first test as I hope to get a JRXT body someday. This also prepared me for the JRX2 repro coming.

Do you guys think the paint color match is good?

Thanks for the comments.

That turned out awesome, great job! 8)

Of course you know the JRXT paint job was an homage to the old Toyota baja and stadium truck paint jobs right?
One of the coolest racing paint jobs ever imho.

Oh yeah, I loved the old stadium races in california when they would drive out of the stadium and back in. Can't remember the arena right now. I guess I am "homaging" Iron Man Stewart and the JRX-T, lol.

What I'd really LIKE to say is awesome job! But, then there's be those who would expect me to derail this topic. Be Damned I say to the nay sayers! GREAT job!!!

8) Seriously, good job taking that you love and incorporating it into another thing you love. I might give folks a hard time, on rare occasion  8) , but in the end it's all about doing what you find love and enjoyment in. You've married two of those things nicely.

Now, if you could just move beyond the dark side and breathe all things AE. Become one with the force, Doc! 8)

I am actually eying a couple of AE's right now as well. I MIGHT be coming to that side. BUt then I will need to rob another bank to fund that as well.

Thank you for the compliment Halgar.

That stadium is the Coliseum. I saw that truck back in the 80's too and it was freekin' awesome.

Here's the truck coming back into the stadium.
